Imagine 2030: Building on Academic Excellence Imagine 2030: Building on Academic Excellence

Final Update in our Strategic Planning Series

As we conclude our Imagine 2030 strategic planning updates, I would like to thank you for your engagement throughout this series. We've explored staff retention, student voice, learning environments, and facility needs in previous communications.

Your feedback affirmed Haslett's strong academic tradition while highlighting opportunities to enhance how we prepare students for their futures. Students and families praised our dedicated teachers and rigorous programs while noting that today's rapidly changing world requires both strong content knowledge and practical skills. As one staff member observed, "the complex future facing students requires more than knowledge alone."

Students provided valuable insights on improving workload balance, study support, and clearer academic pathways. Staff emphasized the importance of maintaining our academic standards while incorporating approaches that develop problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability.

From your survey responses, several key themes emerged to guide our planning:

  • Preserving our challenging curriculum while creating more balanced approaches to homework and assessment

  • Developing clearer learning expectations and feedback systems

  • Enhancing guidance for effective study strategies and post-graduation planning

  • Connecting classroom learning with relevant real-world applications

  • Updating practices to reflect current research and best practices

  • Supporting student well-being alongside academic achievement

This valuable feedback will guide our thinking as we develop Haslett's strategic plan, honoring our tradition of academic excellence while considering how students might best develop the full range of skills needed for future success.

We're grateful to everyone who participated in this process through surveys, focus groups, and conversations. The compiled feedback and initial Imagine 2030 strategic planning framework, informed by your perspectives, will be presented at the Board of Education meeting on July 21.

With appreciation,

Patrick Malley
Superintendent, Haslett Public Schools
