Superintendent Update
September 26, 2025
Cliff's Notes
Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,
In alignment with strategic initiatives 2.1 and 2.2, last week, the Healthy School Hours Working Group held its first meeting and the Anti-Hate/Bias Taskforce met for a third time. Both groups are on track to present updates to the school committee by the end of October. In addition, we continue to work closely with the Bedford Police and DPW to ensure that our students are able to cross our roads safely to get to and from school, while we continue looking for an afternoon crossing guard. Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we work to promote physical and emotional safety and all facets of wellbeing and resilience for our students.
Best,
Cliff Chuang 莊 宏 毅
Superintendent, Bedford Public Schools

At their September 18th meeting, the committee considered a revision to the district's extracurricular policy to allow non-enrolled students to participate if they meet certain criteria. They also approved the FY27 capital budget request and discussed cell reception at Lane School. Their next meeting is on October 14th and will be a finance focused meeting, though the committee is also expected to approve the change to the extracurricular policy. Other topics currently anticipated include the FY25 year-end fiscal report, the FY26 Q1 Report and FY26 Budget Revote. Meeting agendas, schedules, and supporting documents are always available at School Committee - Meeting Schedule & Supporting Documents.
As we do each October, we are asking for parent/guardian cooperation in filling out a survey form to meet the requirements of Public Law 874. Under the provisions of Public Law 874, Bedford Public Schools must conduct an annual Federal Military Impact Aid Survey. The Town of Bedford receives a substantial sum of money under this provision, which lowers the cost of education to the taxpayers. Please help us identify all federally connected students whose families are Active Duty Military, live on Hanscom AFB, OR work on federal facilities - including Hanscom AFB, Bedford VA, Boston VA, Lincoln Public School on HAFB, Lincoln Labs, Mitre and more! Our yearly survey is fully electronic with e-signature. Your survey will be sent by email via DocuSign. Parents/Guardians will receive a unique survey for each enrolled child. It is very important that all surveys are completed and electronically signed for each student, as reimbursement is made for all eligible students on a per pupil basis. You may request a paper survey copy. We thank you very much for your assistance with this important annual survey.
