LCS Sinking Fund Replacement
On May 5th, voters in the Linden Community Schools (LCS) district will consider a Zero-Tax-Rate-Increase Sinking Fund Replacement that would continue funding for critical school facility needs without increasing the current tax rate.
The proposal includes a levy rate of 1.1760 mills for 10 years (2027–2036) and replaces the district’s existing sinking fund, which expires December 31, 2026. If approved, the measure would allow LCS to continue addressing facility, safety, and infrastructure needs while keeping instructional dollars focused on students and classrooms.
If approved by voters, the sinking fund replacement would support investments in school safety and security improvements, technology infrastructure and upgrades, facility and site improvements, and transportation needs, including maintenance of school vehicles. These investments help ensure school facilities remain safe, functional, and supportive of student learning while allowing the district to plan responsibly for the future.
Election Day is Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For voting information, visit www.michigan.gov/vote. Additional details about the Sinking Fund Replacement are available at www.lindenschools.org.
WHAT IS A SINKING FUND
A sinking fund is a critical option Michigan school districts have to fund projects and expenditures related to their facilities and equipment. Linden Community Schools benefit from a sinking fund because it:
- Dedicates an annual amount of funds for approved uses.
- Protects the community's school facility investment.
- Allows LCS to perform necessary facility repairs and renovations without using "educational" dollars, keeping educational dollars in the classroom, supporting and enriching programs and opportunities for our students.
