Capturing Kids Hearts Focus: Helping Our Children Live with Integrity: Being a Leader
This is our last week of the month's focus on Integrity. We will be talking about being a leader this week. The four characteristics we will talk about are; courage, perseverance, empathy, and teamwork.
Courage
In Capturing Kids’ Hearts, courage means more than being brave in difficult moments—it means being willing to speak up for what's right, take responsibility for our actions, and try new things even when we’re unsure. Our students are learning that courage can be quiet, like standing up for a friend or asking for help when something is hard. We encourage children to use their voice and grow their confidence in a safe, supportive environment.
Perseverance
We know that learning—and life—comes with challenges. Through CKH, students are taught that mistakes are part of the learning journey and that giving up is not the answer. We celebrate effort, progress, and resilience. When students face something difficult, whether it’s a tough math problem or a personal struggle, we guide them to keep going, ask for support, and believe in themselves.
Empathy
Empathy is at the heart of Capturing Kids’ Hearts. Our students learn to listen to each other with care, understand different perspectives, and treat others with kindness. Tools like the Social Contract help classes agree on how they want to treat one another, and daily practices like sharing “Good Things” and giving affirmations help students recognize and appreciate each other’s experiences.
Teamwork
Strong relationships are the foundation of teamwork. At Winn, students are learning that working together means respecting each other’s ideas, solving problems cooperatively, and helping one another succeed. Teachers model this every day, and students see that everyone has a role in creating a positive and productive classroom community. When we work together, we all rise.
These values are not just words—we practice them every day. With your continued support, we are helping our children grow into compassionate, confident, and capable individuals. Capturing Kids’ Hearts gives us a shared language and framework to do this important work together—as educators, as families, and as a school community.

Launch
As we finish up the Capturing Kids Heart program this year, our focus looks at leadership. Take a moment this week to talk about this quote with your kiddo! We often encourage our kids to be "leaders" in school and in sports. Talk to them about the characteristics that make a good leader. Have a great week!
