Wednesday, September 25th: Anti-Bullying BMX School Assembly
We're excited to host a BIG AIR BMX Show on Wednesday next week, September 25th, featuring some of the world’s top Pro BMX Athletes in a 40-minute action-packed school assembly. The BMX athletes will deliver powerful positive messages focused on character and anti-bullying.
Principal's Message
Hello Lincoln Community,
Our week included a Site Council meeting, Kindergarten Literacy Night, and Community Meeting for our students. At our weekly Community Meetings we have mini-assemblies led by our counselors. This week and last we focused on Hispanic Heritage and celebrated our Hispanic community. We also honored individual students for their character and leadership, and celebrated birthdays.
Kindergarten Literacy Night: On Wednesday this week we hosted Kindergarten Literacy Night for parents. We served dinner and then held informational sessions for parents to learn about kindergarten literacy instruction and how parents can partner with us by also teaching and practicing with their students at home. For this event we used French Prairie Middle School due to the continuing roofing project at Lincoln. Later in the year we'll have a couple more Kindergarten Literacy Nights, Part 2 and Part 3, and we'll have them right here at Lincoln.
Family Math Night - Date Change: Due to the ongoing Roofing Project, we have changed the date for Family Math Night. Now it will be held on Wednesday, October 23. We hope that by then we'll be able to have it right here at Lincoln.
The Roofing Project Continues: As we're now in the second half of September, the Lincoln roofing project is closer to completion. Carpenters, roofers, and other contractors have been around (mostly on top of the school) working throughout the day and especially in the late afternoon and evenings. The tarring component happens in the evening hours. Our hope is for contractors to complete the project by the end of October.
Fall Conferences: Right around the corner we'll be inviting families in to meet with teachers for Fall Conferences. Look for more information coming soon for an important opportunity to meet with your child's teacher. The dates will be on Wednesday, October 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday, October 10, from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Conferences are a chance for our teachers to spend time with each family to give an update on how the year is going, provide specific student data, set goals, and have a look ahead at learning throughout the year.
Questions: Please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Emergency Drills - We Practice Regularly
Reunification: Either last week or this one, depending on the grade level, each grade level team practiced our Reunification process with their students. We practice this so that students know that we have a designated place to go in the event that we need to evacuate the building and cannot return for a period of time. Emergency practices like these allow staff and students to be prepared in the event that an emergency happens.
Future Drills: Next month, we will practice our first Earthquake Drill. We will continue to provide more specifics on these drills prior to our first ones of the year.
Questions: If you have any questions about our emergency drills or our safety procedures and practices, feel free to give us a call at 503-981-2825.

SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is starting another year at Lincoln Elementary in mid October on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 8:00am - 9:15am. We are looking for volunteers to read with students one-on-one for this program. It is a great way to make a difference in some of our students' lives. You can apply by going to the website and fill out the application. https://www.smartreading.org/volunteer
Student-Parent Handbook - Woodburn School District
Each year throughout the Woodburn School District we distribute the Student-Parent Handbook. This is an important resource that provides information about rights and responsibilities, expectations and accountability, and systems and procedures. It's linked here in English, Spanish, and Russian.
- English: Student-Parent Handbook
- Español: Manual Para Estudiantes y Padres
- Russian: Руководство для учеников и родителей
Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance
This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.
Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!
So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
Safe Oregon: If You See Something, Say Something
Safe Oregon. Feel Safe. Be Safe.
Remember, if you see something, say something. If you become aware of a safety concern please report it to our school office at 503-981-2925 or anytime of the day.
You can also report it to SafeOregon.com or call or text 1-844-472-3367 to report it. SafeOregon gives students, parents, schools, and their communities a way to report safety issues or threats confidentially or anonymously with a simple phone call, text, email or by using the web form or mobile app.
