🐾 PAWS Up for Learning: Welcome to Week 11, Tiger Families! πŸ―πŸ§‘πŸ–€

November is here, and we are excited to begin a new month of learning, growing, and celebrating our Tigers!

This Friday, we will recognize our students during our First Nine Weeks Awards Ceremonies! These celebrations are a wonderful opportunity to recognize hard work, perseverance, positive character, and academic achievement. We are proud of the progress our Tigers have made, and we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments with our families!

As we move further into the second nine weeks, let's continue encouraging our students to set goals, embrace challenges, and give their best effort each day.

🌱 Growth Mindset Moment: The Power of YET!

One of the most important lessons we can teach our children is that learning takes time, practice, and perseverance.

When your child says, "I can't do this," encourage them to add one powerful word: YET!

  • "I can't read that word...YET!"

  • "I don't understand this math problem...YET!"

  • "I'm not good at this...YET!"

That little word can make a BIG difference! It reminds our Tigers that they don't have to know everything right now. With effort, practice, support, and a willingness to keep trying, they can accomplish things that once seemed impossible.

🐾 Try This at Home: Ask your child, "What's something you can do now that you couldn't do at the beginning of the school year?" Celebrate their progress together and help them set one new goal for the second nine weeks!

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸΎ TIGERS, LET'S HONOR OUR HEROES! πŸ―β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

On Tuesday, November 10, Trent Park Elementary is celebrating Veterans Day with TWO special opportunities to show our appreciation for the brave men and women who have served our country!

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ RED, WHITE, BLUE & CAMO SPIRIT DAY!

PAWS Up for Attendance PAWS Up for Attendance

We Need YOUR Help!

🐾 Every minute of the school day matters!

This week, our Tigers had:

βœ… 22 Excused Absences
❌ 47 Unexcused Absences
⏰ 52 Tardies
πŸšͺ 45 Early Pick-Ups

Those last two numbers continue to be an area of focus. There were 97 times this week when a student arrived after the school day began or left before it was over. Sadly, this is an increase from last week.

We know appointments happen and mornings don’t always go as planned. But when we can prevent lost instructional time, we need to. Arriving on time and staying all day means more time to learn, grow, and succeed.

Our goal isn’t just better attendance numbersβ€”it’s more time in class, more opportunities to learn, and better outcomes for our Tigers. 🐯🐾

🧑 Be Here. Be On Time. Stay All Day. πŸ–€

🐾 PAWS Up for a Safe Morning Arrival! πŸ―πŸ§‘πŸ–€

Families, we want to share a few reminders to help keep our morning arrival safe, smooth, and on time for everyone!

πŸš— Carpool: Morning carpool runs from 7:30–7:50 AM. Students need to be inside the school by 7:50, when our tardy bell rings. If you arrive after 7:50, an adult will need to come to the front office to sign your child in.

Our morning announcements also begin at 7:50. If you are signing in during announcements, please help us protect that important start to the school day by checking in quickly and quietly with the staff member on dutyβ€”usually Ms. Debbie or Ms. Sarah.

🚢 Walkers: Our walker entrance is also open from 7:30–7:50 AM, and Ms. Little will be at the door ready to welcome our walkers!

For everyone's safety, please remember that North Grace is not a morning drop-off area for car riders. The side gate is reserved for students who are actually walking to school and for our buses. We have noticed some vehicles driving down North Grace to drop off students and then attempting to turn around while buses are entering, which creates a safety concern.

If your child is arriving by car, please use our front carpool line. πŸš—

Thank you for helping us keep our Tigers safe and get everyone Here, On Time, Ready to Learn! 🐾

PAWS Up for a safe and positive start to every school day! πŸ§‘πŸ–€

Afternoon Dismissal Updates Afternoon Dismissal Updates

This year for dismissal, we will be using a new traffic pattern for afternoon carpool. Please take a moment to review the map so you are familiar with the route before arriving for pickup.

Our goal is to create a safer, smoother dismissal process while also being good neighbors to the community surrounding Trent Park.

🐾 PAWS Up for a Safe Carpool!

🚧 ARRIVING FOR CARPOOL
β€’ Follow the orange route shown on the map to enter the carpool line.
β€’ Stop at the gate and wait for a staff member to open it. Please do not enter until directed to do so.
β€’ Please remain single file while waiting and continue in a single line as you enter the carpool area.
β€’ Be good stewards of our community by keeping driveways, intersections, and side streets clear. Please do not block our neighbors' driveways while waiting.

β€’ Please make sure you enter the line from the Simmons Street/Woodland entrance. By entering via Pine Tree, you will bypass our staff member checking car tags. This will cause your child to not be waiting for you and cause confusion with our numbering system.

🚘 ONCE YOU ENTER THE CARPOOL LINE
β€’ Have your car tag clearly visible so staff can quickly identify your student(s).
β€’ Pull forward as directed and remain in your vehicle.
β€’ Please wait for a staff member to bring your child to your vehicle and assist with loading.
β€’ Stay alert and follow all directions from staff members.

πŸ“΅ SAFETY FIRST
β€’ Please make sure you enter the line from the Simmons Street/Woodland entrance. By entering via Pine Tree, you will bypass our staff member checking car tags. This will cause your child to not be waiting for you and cause confusion with our numbering system. (It's so important we said it TWICE)

β€’ Please stay off your phone while your vehicle is moving or you are actively progressing through the carpool line.

β€’ Watch carefully for students, staff members, and other vehicles.
β€’ Smoking and vaping are not permitted on school property, including while sitting inside your vehicle.

🧑 We know that a new traffic pattern may take a little time to get used to. Your patience and cooperation will help us keep dismissal safe, efficient, and respectful of our surrounding community.

Thank you for helping us put our PAWS Up for Safety! 🐾

Prepared β€’ Accountable β€’ Willing to Learn β€’ Successful

During the first weeks of school, you may be getting notices from the school nurse, Nurse Hargett. Please keep an eye out for these documents and return them as soon as possible!

If your child requires medication during the school day (asthma pump, medication, epi pen, etc), please make sure to contact Nurse Hargett to ensure that we have the proper documentation in place.

🚨 NC HEALTH ASSESSMENT β€” NEEDED ASAP

If your child is in Kindergarten OR is attending a North Carolina public school for the first time, a completed NC Health Assessment is required.

πŸ“… The Health Assessment must be submitted within 30 calendar days of your child’s first day of school.

⚠️ After the 30-day deadline, students cannot attend school until the completed Health Assessment is received.

If you have not already turned in your child’s NC Health Assessment, please submit it to the Trent Park front office as soon as possible.

If you have questions or are unsure whether we have received your child’s form, please contact the school office.

General Reminders General Reminders

User uploaded image

To help ensure safety, consistency, and compliance with district guidelines, we want to share a few important reminders and expectations:

Outside Food Deliveries

Food may not be dropped off from outside restaurants for students β€” even by parents.

If a parent/guardian plans to come eat lunch with their child, outside food may be brought only for that visit. During these visits:

  • Your child will sit with you at a designated table.

  • Friends may not join the table.

  • You must remain for the entire lunch period.

  • The food may not be taken to the classroom.

  • Food may not be left in the office or handed to students as they enter the cafeteria.

These expectations help us remain compliant with Craven County Schools Policy Code 6140 (Student Wellness) and Policy Code 6230 (School Meal and Competitive Foods Standards). The CCS School Nutrition team is closely monitoring compliance, and violations could result in the school being charged for all meals served on that day.

Carpool Safety

For the safety of all students and families, once the carpool line begins moving at 7:30 a.m., vehicles may not bypass the line to enter the parking lot. If you are coming to the school during those times, you must remain in the carpool line until you reach the building.

Dismissal & Transportation Changes

School dismisses at 3:10 p.m., and student checkouts end at 2:30 p.m. This allows us to ensure a safe, organized dismissal for all students.

If you need to make a transportation change:

  • Send a note with your child or email tpe_transportation@cravenk12.org before 2:30 p.m.

  • Transportation changes cannot be made over the phone.

  • Students going home in a different way than originally indicated must have a written note.

For bus questions or to request bus transportation, please contact Mr. Keith Davis. Once requests are processed by the transportation department, families will be notified by email, phone, or letter.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep Trent Park safe, organized, and focused on what matters most β€” our students. 🐯🧑
