Exciting Updates for Parker’s Master Schedule – Your Input Matters!
As we continue working to enhance the instructional experience at Parker Elementary, I want to take a moment to share what I would I believe has been a, thoughtful and thorough process that has gone into developing the new master schedule for 2025-2026. While this schedule is not open for parent decision-making, I strongly believe in gathering input from all stakeholders, and I welcome your questions and feedback as we move toward finalization.
The Process Behind the New Master Schedule
1️⃣ Identifying Core Concerns – Alongside the administrative team, we identified key areas that needed improvement, including:
- Equitable instructional blocks for all students
- Reducing the disruption of SPED and dyslexia pull-outs during core instruction
- Improving teacher planning time to align with evolving instructional expectations
2️⃣ Taking a Holistic Approach – We saw this as an opportunity not just to adjust, but to innovate, including integrating the magnet program into the regular school day.
3️⃣ Gathering Teacher Input – I hosted multiple "braintrust" meetings with the general teaching staff, music department, and both upper and lower grade teams to discuss concerns and ideas.
4️⃣ Developing a Working Template – Using teacher feedback, I created a first draft of the master schedule based on the instructional and logistical needs of our campus.
5️⃣ Refining Through Vetting – The draft was reviewed with each grade level and department for accuracy and adjustments, as well as with district personnel for compliance and overall feasibility.
6️⃣ (Where We Are Now!) Parent Feedback Phase – We are now in the stage of gathering parent feedback on the nearly finalized schedule. Feedback will be gathered during the Chat & Chew w/ Principal Carter.
7️⃣ Final Review & Approval – The School Decision-Making Committee (SDMC) will provide final feedback before implementation.
8️⃣ Preparing for Launch – A faculty meeting will be held to review the final master schedule, and we plan to run a practice of the new schedule after STAAR testing to identify any necessary refinements before full implementation next school year.
This process has been a significant undertaking with the goal of not only improving student success but also reducing stress and inefficiencies for our dedicated teachers. Change is never without challenges, and while adjustments may not make everyone happy, the ultimate focus has been on achieving a structure that best serves our students and staff. I am proud to share that approximately 98% of our teachers are fully on board and excited about the improvements coming next year!
Additionally, I have collaborated with:
✔️ PTO Leadership regarding after-school care adjustments
✔️ HISD Nutrition Services on necessary cafeteria procedure updates
✔️ The Early Childhood Department to ensure proper scheduling for our youngest learners
Join Me for a Chat & Chew!
Parents, I invite you to bring your questions and feedback to our Chat & Chew with Principal Carter tomorrow, Monday, March 24, at either 8:00 AM or 5:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity to learn more, share your thoughts, and ask any questions about what this means for your child.
Thank you for your continued support in making Parker the best place for our students to learn and grow!
