Homecoming
SHS is celebrating HOMECOMING tomorrow. The parade starts at 1:30pm at SMS. Students will be attending the parade during school. Please review these expectations at home, so that we can continue this fun tradition.
PBIS
Our PBIS Team are working on revisiting expectations. All staff will be handing out Spartan Tickets to students who are showing Work, Respect, Belong at SMS. They will have the opportunity to "spend" their Spartan Tickets at a store that will be opening soon. If you would like to help promote positive behavior at SMS, we have created an Amazon Wish List here. Any donations are appreciated.
CHECK YOUR EMAIL
Teachers will be reaching out soon with info on how to sign up to meet.
Treats for Teachers
Thank you to SCCU for providing dinner for teachers on 9/28, and for Holden Insurance for providing dinner on 10/3. Our teachers love feeling the support from our community.
Do you want to help provide dessert during these long evenings? We have created a sign up here. Home made goodies are welcome, but if a bag of Halloween candy is more you're thing, that would be ok too! Please bring in your treat donations to the main office by 2:30pm on the nights of conferences. Thank you for showing your support to our teachers!
Counselors Corner
Counselors are here to support all our students.
Please reach out to:
Hallee Yon - 6th Grade
Cari Payne - 7th Grade
Maryann Bonneville - 8th Grade
This week all students in grades 6-8 participated in a bullying and harassment lesson. We had great discussions around how to identify, respond and report bullying and harassment. The biggest takeaway was this: Everyone in our school is responsible for creating a safe and inclusive environment. If we can focus on KINDNESS and RESPECT, if we can treat every person in our school with dignity, if we work together we will see an increase in academic success for all. Each and everyone of us has a role to play in making SMS a great place to learn and grow.

A “Healthy Minute” Note from the SMS Health Office
SETTING A DAILY ROUTINE:
With back to school in full swing, the health office notices trends rather quickly of students frequenting the health office. Questions we typically ask with every office encounter: “What did you eat this morning? What time did you go to bed? What time does your alarm go off to wake up for school? What time do you turn off your screen devices at home? Etc.” Studies have proven that regular daily routines help school-aged students that tend to be stuck in a funk of poor sleep habits, feeling stressed or anxious, fatigue, lack of exercise, and a poor diet. We encourage students AND parents to have discussions at home about developing a healthy routine that works for your home life in order to ensure students are off to a great start to the beginning of each week and each morning! This includes a consistent bedtime, wake up time, hygiene routine, daily activity, and healthy food choices. A healthy routine starts on Sunday nights :)Our School Days
A Days and B Days
We alternate A Days and B Days. This indicates when your student will alternate their FAA classes. For instance they may have Phy Ed on A Days and Art on B Days. We post what day we will be starting the week with on our Facebook account on Sundays. We also post throughout the building for our students. They catch on quickly! If you are wanting to look ahead, our school calendar shows which days are which.
Spartan Start
This is something new we are doing this year and is similar to traditional "homeroom". However, this is not just a fluffy study hall time. We use this time to go over lessons on social emotional learning, community building, and more valuable content. Ask your student what they talked about with their Spartan Start class.
Schedule
The class schedule looks a little different this year. Lunch time is separate by grade. To keep our hallways less congested and more focused, passing time is staggered. Here is a schedule for your reference.
After School Programs
Intramurals
SMS has built an exciting intramural program this year.
All registration for SMS Intramural sports and clubs is done online using EduTrak. Please go to this site and create an account. Then “shop” for the activity of your choice and add to your basket. You will be prompted to fill out the required registration form, create a payment type and then make your payment. If the activity does not have a fee, your cart will indicate $0.00 due at checkout. It’s as easy as that! Contact Mrs. Bender with any questions.
The Boys & Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club operates out of Superior Middle School. It is here to provide a safe place for youth in our area to achieve academic success, healthy lifestyles, and social/emotional growth. They provide after school programming Monday through Friday from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. To join the club, please go to bgcnorth.org and click on the BECOME A MEMBER tab. They are excited to continue supporting all school aged youth. If you have any questions, please send an email to sprclub@bgcnorth.org or call 715-394-8740 ext 31212.
GEARS Program
Our GEARS Program is open to all students who need homework support. GEARS starts on October 10th. It is FREE and runs every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00 in the SMS Library. Registration is required by returning this form to our main office. Hard copies of the form are located in the main office as well.
Message from the Gym
The PE department is looking for shoe donations. We are looking for sizes 6, 7, 8, & anything in between (meaning half sizes). If you have some you would like to donate, please send to the main office. Thank you!
