The Sheiko Weekly Update

Dear Sheiko Families,

It's been another great week at Sheiko Elementary! The Lyle, Lyle Crocodile movie has been rescheduled to Sept. 13th at 6 p.m. It is only $3 per person and concessions will be sold. Come see the movie "under the stars" because the movie is on the football field! Thank you for passing the bond for our "outdoor classroom movie screen".

Our "Big Announcment" this week is about Curriculum Night on September 11th. Here is the schedule:

K & 1st, Ms. Beck's class, & Ms. Metzger - 6-6:30

2nd & 3rd, Mrs. Tarnaci's class, Ms. Messel & Ms. Anderson - 6:45-7:15

4th & 5th - 7:30-8

You can also attend "Mileage Club" training from 6:30-6:45 or 7:15 to 7:30. See the sign up for "Mileage Club" later in this newsletter.

Snacks:

Please remember to send a healthy snack with your child each day. If student's have chips or sweets or candy, they will be asked to save it for lunch. There is a beautiful fruit and veggie bar that students can get at lunch or breakfast and save for snack at no cost for families. Thank you!

Birthday Treats:

We love to celebrate birthdays at Sheiko Elementary! We just ask that you don't send any food items. Students can bring in a book to donate to the classroom library, pencils, bookmarks, or other trinkets, but due to allergies, we cannot have food items brought in. Thanks for understanding!

Free & Reduced Lunch forms have a new name - still important to fill out

The new school year has opened in meal magic so we are ready for free and reduced applications to start coming in. We are serving free meals under Michigan School Meals again this year, but we still need all families to complete an application. The free and reduced meals application is now called the "Education and Nutrition Benefits Application." This is because it is tied to other benefits that families may receive such as Summer EBT. These supplemental programs have the potential to offer additional support for reduced priced sports, ACT, SAT, college application and AP exam waivers. This information is also critical in determining the amount of money our schools receive from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs.

Our special dietary needs form is also posted online. This needs to be filled out and returned to nutrition services for any students that may have severe medical food allergies. Thank you!

Blessings In a Backpack HAS A NEW NAME - Fueling Kids' Futures

Parents of WBSD students can apply to receive six non-perishable meals each Friday of the school year. The goal of Fueling Kids' Futures is to make sure no child goes hungry on the weekend. Run by volunteers, there is NO cost to the families. For the application, click here.

Save the Date: the major fundraiser for Fueling Kids' Futures is Trivia Night Friday, November 8.

The first two weeks in Art we have been working on getting to know each other, routines procedures and making our DREAM BIG bulletin board.
