MONARCH PRIDE, STRONGER TOGETHER!
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINICPAL
Dear Northside Families,
We want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of our school's electronics policy. The overwhelming majority of our students are doing a wonderful job following expectations, and we truly appreciate their cooperation and your support at home!
While most students are making good choices, we are still confiscating electronic devices on a daily basis. We want to remind families that students are expected to follow our electronics policy throughout the school day. Our goal is not to take devices away, but to maintain a learning environment where students are focused, engaged, and free from unnecessary distractions.
We have also received several calls regarding the times when parents or guardians may pick up confiscated devices. Please remember that confiscated electronic devices may only be retrieved by a parent or guardian between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. This is the only designated pickup window, and we are unable to accommodate requests outside of these hours. We appreciate your understanding as we work to apply this procedure fairly and consistently for all families.
We know that the success of our students depends on a strong partnership between home and school. Thank you for taking a few moments to remind your student of these expectations and for helping us keep the focus on teaching and learning.
We appreciate our Northside families and everything you do to support our school. Thank you for being part of the Monarch family!

SIGNS OF SUICIDE
Onslow County Schools continue to prioritize the importance of student well-being, mental health, and educating students on the importance of seeking help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. To proactively address this important subject, we would like to train students using the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program on October 21. This program effectively teaches students about signs of depression and suicide prevention.
Please note that your child will only be permitted to participate with your signed consent. No student will be permitted to participate in the SOS program without the prior written consent of the parent or adult student. The opt-in forms were sent home this week. It will need to be returned, signed, and sent back to the school no later than October 19. If you have any questions, please contact the School Social Worker at 910-455-4868.

MONARCH MAVENS' BOOK DRIVE
MONARCH MAVENS is a group started by Jessie Olan last year dedicated to helping mentor 9th and 10th grade girls while giving back to the community. They launched the book drive in hopes of putting books into the hands of children and families by distributing them at Trunk or Treat and potentially sending them home in CHEW bags for students to read with younger siblings or share with other children in their neighborhoods. Please help us make this vision a reality.

POWER HOUR
Students are reminded that Power Hour is a requirement. Make your selections early to avoid missing out on sessions you prefer. Power Hour is the built-in time during the school day when students can attend tutoring, attend club/organization meetings, and attend enrichment sessions. Students are required to select a Power Hour session. The only students in Catch All should be students whose sessions have been cancelled. Catch All is not for students who did not find a session they “like.” Sessions can be selected for an entire week. Pick a session!
DON'T BE TARDY
TARDY POLICY REMINDERS
PURPOSE: Being on time to school and class is crucial for student success and prepares them for future academic and career responsibilities.
DEFINITION: A student is considered tardy to school if they are not in the school by 7:09am. A student is considered tardy to class if they are not in the room when the tardy bell rings.
CONSEQUENCES: (Note: Tardy count is for EACH class, not combined): Office referrals begin with the third tardy to class. An administrator will make parent contact. This will be the final warning before the student receives ISS for excessive tardies.
DRESS CODE
The counseling department will be hosting post high school planning sessions during power hour over the next two weeks. There will be sessions for those applying to four-year colleges, those applying to two-year colleges and trade school, and those going into the military or the work force. We ask that all members of the class of 2027 sign up for the session(s) in Flex Time that matches their post high school plans.
