Attendance Matters!
Make attendance important for your family
Did you know?
- Too many absences in preschool and elementary school can cause children to struggle socially and academically.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Missing 10% of school (2 days each month) can make it harder to learn to read and do basic math.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school — and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool and through elementary school so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day, is important.
What can you do?
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up.
- Monitor your child’s absences.
- Try to schedule nonurgent medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- If you are concerned that your child may have a contagious illness, call your school nurse or healthcare provider for advice. Ask the teacher for ideas to support missed learning time.
School Safety
Safety Drills
We are required to practice several drills by the end of October. Each week, we will focus on one. Teachers will teach, model, and rehearse each one prior to a school-wide drill. Our tentative schedule is as follows:
- Evacuate (fire): Week of 9/7
- Secure (reverse evacuation): Week of 9/14
- Lockdown: Week of 9/21
- Bus Evacuations & Hold (clear the hallways): Week of 9/28
- Shelter-Drop, Cover, & Hold On (earthquake): Week of 10/12
- Shelter-Severe Weather: Week of 10/12
School Security measures have been put into place for the safety of all students and staff. All outside doors will always be locked. Visitors and parents coming into the building will need to bring ID and ring the doorbell outside the main entrance of the school. The office staff will grant them access into the building by “buzzing” them into the school where they can sign in at the office once they have stated the purpose for their visit. Please do not allow anyone else into the building should they arrive at the same time as you.

Military Families
There are many military families who live in our community and who have children who attend our school. If you are a military family, please click HERE to let us know. Volunteer at Beach Elementary
Volunteer with us! CCPS uses the Raptor system for volunteers and visitors to sign in and out of schools. All volunteers (anyone interacting with children for activities such as field day, field trips, VIP Day, etc.) will need to review the volunteer handbook, watch the volunteer training video, and apply to be an approved volunteer each year before volunteering in any school. Click HERE to become a volunteer!
It would be very helpful if you applied to be a volunteer as soon as possible, even now when you might have a little extra time in the summer. The application and approval process takes a little time and we have experienced issues where volunteers were not approved in time to chaperone field trips. Don't let that happen to you!
Lost & Found at Beach Elementary
BES PTO
Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has always supported Beach Elementary. An active PTO has provided several advantages for our students and staff. The PTO has formed closer school and community bonds. The parents and other citizens who have contributed time, effort, talents, and materials have a personal commitment to Beach Elementary. The fundraising efforts of the PTO have helped to improve and enrich the learning experiences for our children by supporting the cultural arts and field trip programs. Our staff has always appreciated the PTO's loyal support and we plan to continue working in this active partnership. Please join the PTO.
Join the BES PTO today to get on our email list, stay up to date on events and volunteer opportunities, and to have your thoughts and ideas heard. Membership is $10 per family, all membership fees are used to fund events including the Ag Lab mobile field trip, dances, and many more!
