Principal's Remarks Principal's Remarks

Carver Cornerstone of Respect

As a reflect on the last few weeks, I feel compelled to revisit our values and commitment to our school community and our students. The Carver Cornerstone of Respect:

I have respect for myself.

I have respect for others.

I have respect for my work and the work of others.

remains the central foundational belief system for our school. Please review this with your student.

Carver remains a very diverse school and I am proud of that. Our students and their families represent a variety of and sometimes multiple cultural, religious, social, and political identities and perspectives, and Carver's commitment is to embrace each student and build a community of respect where every student is safe to learn. The current times present challenges to our school community. It is my hope we will continue to engage in discussion, as needed, and seek to understand not only for the sake of our individual student but in the interest of each Carver student, so the school culture is healthy for all students.

Please remind your student about your expectation for interacting with other people through texting and social media. Remind them that anything they don't see first hand is a rumor. Please report concerns to teachers and administrators. We will address each.

AP Testing Continues through May 22

AP exams are scheduled May 4-22. Each student testing received a letter from their AP teacher with the location of their exam, information on what to bring, and when to report. Here is a link to CollegeBoard website with the full Exam Schedule. Any student that does not take their AP Exam will incur a $40 unused exam fee.

All students should bring with them their fully charged BCPS Chromebook and charger with them. Students are not allowed to use personal devices. Here is a list of items that you may and not bring to the test from College Board.

Students must know their College Board log in information in order to test. Proctors and school staff do not have access to this information. If a student is not able to log in with their email and password to log in to their College Board account they will not be able to test.

Report Times:

  • Morning exams students need to report at 7:30 am to their testing location. They will not check in with first period teachers but need to report directly to their testing location. Late students will not be able to test.
  • Students reporting for morning exams should bring their lunch if they have extended time or an afternoon test as they will not be able to go tot eh dinning hall during testing.
  • Afternoon exams students need to report at 11:30am to their testing location. Students that do not have a morning exam will need to eat first lunch the day of their exam then report directly to the testing location. Late students will not be able to test. Students need to arrange transportation home as afternoon test go beyond the end of the school day and students will not be to take buses home. No student is allowed to leave before the testing time has ended for any reason. Appointments should be made for after the test has concluded.

We anticipate that all testing will run smoothly, but it is important to remind all CCR students:

  • Students who are College and Career Readiness (CCR) met and who demonstrate disruptive or elopement behaviors in an exam room or during an AP exam will be responsible for the cost of exam fees incurred. AP exams follow specific guidelines for testing and students who leave testing rooms without permission or are disruptive during a testing session are subject to an incident report (school administration and College Board), will be dismissed and not readmitted, and will be responsible for the exam fees incurred.

Questions:

  • Course specific questions should be directed to your students AP teacher.
  • If you have a logistics question, fee question, or need to cancel an exam please contact Ms. Horner nhorner2@bcps.org
