What's Happening at Woodside? What's Happening at Woodside?

Cougars show Gratitude!

We finished our week of minimum days with Gratitude Assemblies for TK-2 and 3-5 grade spans. Each teacher recognized students who regularly show appreciation, positivity, and thankfulness. Please check out the photos of our award recipients below. Also, check out two videos where our Cougars share Gratitude: one with the Superintendent Melissa Bassinelli and one made for our assembly. With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, it is a perfect time to put a daily practice of Gratitude into place!

As the Parent-Teacher conference week is coming to a close, your student's Report Card will be viewable on the Parent Portal on Monday, November 25th. If you missed your scheduled appointment or have further questions, please reach out to your student's teacher(s) directly. It was awesome to see so many families come in to partner with the teachers in support of your student!

These additions include Student Senate (middle school), a LatinX Club (middle school), a Glee Club (4th-5th), and a Celebrating Diversity Club (3rd-5th and possibly middle school, too)! Look for more information about these options and more coming up on our return in December.

Woodside’s Three Pillars

  • Belong

  • Experience

  • Connect

Cocoa, Crafts, & Community! Join us for a free evening of cocoa, cookies, and crafts as we come together as a Woodside community! Thursday, Dec. 19th, 5:00-6:30pm, Woodside Multipurpose Room, 8248 Villa Oak Drive 95610. An adult must be in attendance with students.

At Woodside, innovative thinking is at the heart of everything we do. As we plan our upcoming community event, Cocoa, Crafts, & Community, on December 19, we are embracing the design thinking process by starting with empathy. We’ve engaged students to reflect on their experiences from last year’s event by asking: What did you enjoy? What challenges did you face? What changes would you make?

This student-centered approach ensures their voices shape the event, making it more meaningful and inclusive. By gathering and applying their feedback, we are modeling how innovation thrives through collaboration and iteration. This process not only enriches our events but also reinforces our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and community at Woodside.

CHASEN

Seasons Greetings Neighbors!

Tis the season; jolly and bright, sharing is caring and help thy neighbors.

Your Neighborhood Areas 7-8-9 are gearing up for their annual Giving Tree Event in which local families in need are sponsored to ensure a memorable Christmas is provided.

Last year we helped provide for 15 local children, see photo above. We would like to increase that goal to help more families, funds permitting.

Your assistance is pivotal in the quality and quantity of those wishes we can fulfill. Whether the smallest amount or the greatest, any donation supplements our efforts. We are grateful to receive cash, checks, or gift cards toward toys, clothing and tangible essentials. No amount is too small to make a difference.

We are a non-profit organization and can provide a tax-deductible receipt to you.

If you’d like to help, please reach out by sending checks (payable to CHASEN) or gift cards in care of Bill

Shirley, or email us to make pick-up arrangements; www.citrusheightsarea789@gmail.com.

THANK YOU for your generous consideration.

Open Enrollment Information

Our open enrollment period begins on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. During this time, you can submit an application to have your student attend a school other than his or her neighborhood school as long as there is space available and you are willing to provide transportation for your student.

When you log in to Parent Portal starting Nov. 23, you can view your child’s assigned school for the next school year to help you decide whether to participate in open enrollment. As soon as you log in to Parent Portal, you will see both your child’s school for this school year and their assigned school for the next school year (2025-26) listed just below. No further action is needed if you are satisfied with your child’s assigned school for the next school year. If you would like to apply to make a change, you can complete an open enrollment lottery application starting Dec. 9.

Because open enrollment is a computer-generated lottery and not approved on a first-come, first-served basis, you can submit your application at any time during the open enrollment period.

Applications will be available online at www.sanjuan.edu/openenrollment and you may stop at the San Juan Central office, located at 3700 Garfield Ave. in Carmichael, if you need support with completing your application. For more information, call (916) SAN-JUAN or email oel@sanjuan.edu.

Woodside's Giving Tree: Adopt-A-Family

We will once again have a Giving Tree in our school office to provide assistance during this winter season to families in our Woodside community. This year we have a number of families we would like to support with gifts for the children and food for the family.

If you would like to participate in this worthwhile effort, you may come into the office and pick one or more STARS from the Giving Tree. Each star will have information about the child's age and a specific gift that the parent thought the child would like.

The stars will be placed on the tree beginning Monday, November 18th. The gift should be returned to the office by Tuesday, December 17th. The gifts should be wrapped, and the star should be placed on top.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and caring support of our community members!
