Coco in Real Life--Students Celebrate Dia de los Muertos
Students in Mrs. Nordquist's Spanish classes spent the week learning about and prepping for Dia de los Muertos. Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico and Latin America as a way to remember those who have died.
Spanish I students spent the week learning about the various customs and items used to celebrate Day of the Dead and then applied their knowledge to build "ofrendas" honoring a famous Spanish speaker that they first had to reseach and write about. They ended the week with a fiesta of food and games.
Spanish III classes learned about the role of the monarch butterfly in the Day of the Dead traditions. Traditionally, the migrating monarchs' return to the mountains of Mexico symbolizes the return of the souls of the dead for the holiday. Using their language skills, Spanish III students read about the incredible life cycle and journey of these insects throughout the week.
Lovely Leaf Work
The Biology students showcased their Halloween artwork this week. Students have been studying photosynthesis and in this project used leaf pigments to color their drawings.
Congratulations to the Cross Country team for the excellent placing at the State Cross Country Meet held at Heart Ranch in Rapid City last weekend. The boys' team placed 13th overall with Ryder Graff and Brett Hansen finishing in the top 50 out of 130 runners. Congrats on a great season!
Get Caught Doing Something Good!
A shout out to FELICIA LAFONTAINE this week for stepping up and helping out. A lot of arts and crafts took place in the Spanish room this week, but Felicia was ready to help clean up the extra paint and glue. She saw that some of her classmates' desks needed some cleaning and without being asked, helped them leave the room just as neat as they found it. Thanks for helping others out, Felicia!
