What's Enough?

One thing I notice about people when they’re overwhelmed is that they don’t realize how much they’re carrying. Some don't even know they've normalized chaos. Is this you?
It’s not always the big things like loss and change that keep us stuck. Although big things can burden and stack, it’s the constant stream of information coming in that erodes our freedom. Emails, decisions, expectations, notifications, errands, commitments, and things we think we should be doing.
Certainly, a lot needs actual attention. And... LOTS can be delegated, deleted or distanced.
I see people trying to keep up with everything, while at the same time feeling like they’re falling behind. And underneath all of that is often this quiet belief that they should be able to do more. Be more. Handle more. Somehow keep it all up-- flawlessly.
Humans are not designed to take in everything, all the time. At some point, we have to decide what actually matters. Make new choices. That’s where the question of “what's enough” becomes so important.
What's enough for now? What actually needs attention?
What can wait? What's the next right thing? Who can take this?
What am I tolerating? What can I let go?
More isn’t always better. More information doesn’t necessarily make us wiser. More activity doesn’t necessarily make our lives more meaningful. Learn the difference between a meaningful life and a busy life.
Meaningfulness is fulfilling. Busy is tiring. Practice meaningfulness at work and with family and friends. It's possible in ALL realms of life.
Sometimes we don't need another tool, another strategy, another meeting, another team, or another thing to add to the list. Trust me... "Select All, Delete" gives a mighty serotonin boost like no other!
Sometimes we need less input, less opinion, less stress, less noise, less pressure, less comparison, less to do, and less trying to keep up.
More often we need to just be. We need more space to think, feel and notice what’s already here to enjoy the gifts and be present to this moment. That’s where we begin to find our own answer to the question: "What’s enough?". This is resilience in action. This is leadership of the self.
You'll know you've got it. It's that feel good feeling between "I can", "I shouldn't" and "I can't". Give it a try. Share it with your team, family and friends. Practice patience. Practice kindness. Practice meaningfulness.
