January 2019
monthly newsletter for LSSPs in Region 10
Letter from the 'Editor'
I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break. It's hard to believe that we are half way through the 18-19 school year. When my wife and I became parents, lots of well-meaning people in our lives shared some typical cliches. One that stands out as true in both parenting and education is "The years are short and the days are long".
Every year I feel like the time goes by quicker and quicker, but every day still comes jam packed with interesting challenges, new surprises, and plenty of work to go around. While there is plenty to do to fill your calendar, please be sure to take some time to address your own needs as well. Self-care is a critically important function for human service professionals such as LSSPs. If you are a NASP member, The Dec 2018 Communique had a wonderful Q&A with Paula Gill Lopez called Self-Care is Best Practice and served as a reminder that we need to be taking steps to ensure our physical and mental well-being if we are to be of any value to those we serve.
Take care of yourself and each other!
