How Can This Newsletter Help You?
One of our goals this semester is to serve as a resource for teachers. We want all learners — especially our G/T students — to thrive and grow as they move toward the end of the year. This newsletter will share practical tips and strategies to help you support their success.
If you would like us to put something specific in this newsletter, or if you would like assistance with planning for your Gifted students, reach out to us. Our contact info is at the bottom of this newsletter.
Way to go Heidi K. from TOPS and Jennifer S. from LSOA for answering last week's brain teaser correctly!
What's always coming but never arrives?
The actual answer is "tomorrow", but they both said "the future", which is also a great answer!
Gifted students often "think outside the box", so their answers might not align with what we were thinking originally. If we take a moment to listen, we just might see things in a different way.
The first staff member that answers correctly gets a shout out in the next newsletter!

Strategy of the Week
Use Task Cards
Use Task Cards: Create task cards that contain a task or question. Have students complete them either individually or in pairs either in Canvas or at your Engageli tables. Differentiate the cards based on student need.
-
For example, if you are teaching fractions, the following task cards could be used at your Engageli tables:
- Advanced Learner: Create a task card where students represent and add mixed fractions with like denominators using pictorial models and number lines. The task card can also ask them to explain and justify their reasoning in writing.
- Average Learner: Create a task card where students decompose improper fractions into whole numbers and fractions, and add/subtract fractions with equal denominators using concrete models and number lines.
- Struggling Learner: Create a task card where students use hands-on fraction strips and pictorial area models to build fractions as sums of unit fractions, practice recognizing simple equivalent fractions, and perform addition/subtraction with equal denominators with teacher-guided steps and sentence stems.
Have you done this before? We would love to hear about how you used this strategy in your classroom previously.
Never done this before? Try it and let us know how it goes!
