Dear Parents and Carers,

We have enjoyed another busy few weeks here at OLSG, with a big focus being our fantastic World Book week celebrations. Many classes had a trip to Waterstones Book shop to spend their WBD vouchers. They thoroughly enjoyed a variety of dance workshops, assemblies, Stay and Read parent sessions and activities developing their love of reading for pleasure and purpose. Well done to everyone for your fabulous costumes as usual.

As we continue to journey through Lent, we hope that March will bring more sunshine as we prepare for Easter tide. Keep an eye out for news of our class fundraising projects this half term. Together we can work in supporting those in need in our local community and beyond, through the HCPT. The HCPT is a charity, that works with disabled and disadvantaged people to provide them pilgrimage holidays. It is a cause that is close to our hearts at OLSG, as a number of our pupils have been support by the HCPT over the years. We thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting our Lenten fundraising efforts.

Best wishes,

Ms R McGylnn

World Book Day 2026

On Thursday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day at our school with lots of excitement and creativity! Students and teachers came dressed as their favourite book characters, bringing stories to life throughout the day. We enjoyed reading activities, book discussions, and sharing our favourite stories with friends. The our World Book Day celebrations reminded us how fun and powerful reading can be, and it encouraged everyone to discover new books and authors. Overall, it was a fantastic day that showed just how much our children love reading.

Holy Family Reading helpers

This World book week we were joined by Year 9 pupils from Holy Family, who did an excellent job of sharing stories with Year 3.

Holy Family staff enjoyed this opportunity to collaborate, commenting, 'Thank you to the staff and students at Our Lady and St George’s for a wonderful partnership between our Year 9 students and Year 3 pupils, where they read together in celebration of World Book Day. It was a lovely celebration of literacy and a shared love of reading, and we look forward to organising similar events together in the future.'

Thank you for your help and enthusiasm, Year 9.

Reflection

As we quickly journey through the season of Lent and start to enjoy early signs of Spring, we are reminded that this is a special time for reflection, prayer and renewal. Leading us towards the joy of Easter, Lent invites us to pause in the busyness of daily life and think about how we can grow closer to God and to one another. In school, we encourage the children to focus on the three traditional pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving, finding small but meaningful ways to show kindness, generosity and forgiveness. As a school community, we pray that this Lenten season will be a time of grace for all our families, helping us to reflect on what truly matters and to prepare our hearts for the hope and joy of Easter.

Ten Ten Newsletter
