Superintendent'sLetter Thursday, June 10, 2022

Dear School Board Members, Administrators, Staff Members, Students, Families, and Community Members,

Last evening, I had the privilege of attending our high school graduation ceremony. Our seniors talked about the importance of friendships and relationships. They talked about how listening, supporting, and caring for one another got them through these difficult times. They expressed the importance of being oneself, feeling accepted and valued, and the significance of feeling part of the school community. They bravely spoke about the challenges faced during the pandemic including mental health issues and beautifully played music including lyrics from the song For Good (Wicked), ”Because I knew you, I have been changed, For good.” It was a wonderful celebration and I am so proud of our Class of 2022.

Our seniors’ words last night emphasized the importance of our schools to them individually, collectively, and to us as a community. As I wrote in my May 25th community letter:

This is a pivotal moment for New Hampshire, and we need to gather together to support our public schools. We need to provide a voice for students who are underrepresented and those whose safety may be at risk.

If you are interested in helping the effort to support our public schools, please send me an email at willhelp@sau88.net and let me know how you would like to help. I will be in contact with you over the summer about the next steps for the fall.

This effort will be connected with The Lebanon School District 2022-2025 three-year strategic plan that was created by school administrators, revised based on staff and community input, and was approved this week by the School Board. There are three main themes: A Culture of Belonging, Equitable Educational Experiences, and Facilities, Technology, Business, and Communication focused on providing safety, security, accessibility, and consistency. All three themes emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion.

I would like to whole-heartedly thank our administrators, staff members, students, and families for their dedication, innovation, positive attitude, and incredible work ethic. We have overcome many challenges and there is much to be proud of and celebrate. I am looking forward to the remaining end-of-school events and wish everyone a fantastic, much-deserved summer vacation.

Thank you for your continued support.

With gratitude,

Dr. Joanne Roberts
