AVHS PRINCIPAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
OCTOBER 19, 2026
Our campus is buzzing with incredible energy, and the dedication of our staff and students is shining through in everything we do. Our classrooms are centers of high-level engagement and real-world success, starting with our AVID students who are setting the bar high by entering the year A-G ready. Our seniors also crushed a record-breaking Future Ready Financial Aid and Cal Kids Campaign kickoff, with 86 seniors claiming over $48,332 in scholarship funds in a single day. GE Engineering students are taking learning to new heights by designing airplanes in class and embarking on an unforgettable weekend engineering trip to Catalina Island for night snorkeling and marine science. AVHS boasts the highest number of SAT takers and the second-highest number of PSAT takers in the entire district. Furthermore, all four of our AVHS FFA teams delivered phenomenal performances at the Section Opening and Closing Ceremonies Contest, with the Officer and Novice teams taking 1st place overall and advancing to the regional competition in November. Our YES and CTE student teams also earned 1st place at the district-wide WE CARE Disability Awareness Jeopardy Competition. The excitement continues on the field and courts, starting with our football team securing an electric 38-9 victory in their first league game against Pete Knight. That momentum rolls straight into this Friday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM as we host Littlerock High School for our epic Homecoming Game, Hall of Fame Night, and Senior Night. Girls Golf is also shining bright with Kathy Payes Landaverry qualifying for the league tournament for the second consecutive year with an impressive 65.67 season average. Be sure to mark your calendars for upcoming events like the Family University Parent Meeting on October 19th, College and Career Night at the AV Fair on October 20th, a student-free day on October 21st, the Homecoming Dance on October 24th, the Fall Festival on October 27th, and Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 10th. AVHS FFA COMPETITORS
Our Antelope Valley High School FFA students achieved incredible success at the Section FFA Opening and Closing Ceremonies Contest, competing against six other chapters with exceptional articulation, teamwork, and precision. All four of our competing teams delivered outstanding performances: both our Officer Team and Novice Team earned 1st place overall in their respective divisions, while the Advanced Team 1 placed 2nd and Advanced Team 2 took 3rd place.
Thanks to a month and a half of dedicated practice after school, all four of our teams officially qualified to advance to the regional competition in Perris, California, this November! Along with several high individual placements earned by our talented students, their exemplary sportsmanship and professionalism made our school immensely proud both on and off the competition floor.
AVHS CAL KIDS CAMPAIGN & FINANCIAL AID KICKOFF
Antelope Valley High School kicked off its Future Ready Financial Aid and Cal Kids Campaign with a presentation to roughly 125 seniors through their Civics, Economics, and Government classes. Jennifer Lima from the Office of Senator Suzette Valladares joined to encourage attendance at the upcoming District FAFSA workshop on October 17th. During the event, students learned to navigate CaliforniaColleges.edu, set up their FAFSA/CADAA applications, and claim their Cal Kids Scholarship accounts. In a single day, approximately 86 seniors claimed at least $562 each—totaling over $48,332 in scholarship funds—marking a record-breaking success for AVHS as students prepare to start their college applications with counselors next week!
