Hello Walsh Families,
Next week, Walsh will be collecting monetary donations for Lurie Children's Hospital. We will also be having a Super Hero Spirit Week to promote this fundraiser. Lurie Children's Hospital Fundraiser and Spirit Week
Vivianna has been a patient at Lurie Children’s for the past 3 years. She was diagnosed with a blood cancer, called Leukemia when she was 8 years old. The team at Luries was prepared to fight with and for our family! With all the donations received by the hospital, Vivianna was able to receive Chemotherapy, infusions, support from the child life specialists, and have some fun with the volunteers in the play rooms during hospital visits and overnight stays. Our family did not have to stress about bills or feel uneasy about the plan of care, prognosis. We were able to focus on Vivianna and adjusting to this new life changer. We knew we were in good hands. Luries has become a second family over the years and we couldn’t feel more blessed to have found them. They saved Vivi, now we can watch her grow, thrive and live the life she is meant to live.

Ways to Communicate Better With Your Child
#8 Tell your child “I love you” often. A child who feels cherished is more willing to communicate.
· Handwashing is key in preventing the spread of germs. Cold and flu season is still in full swing. Please encourage students to wash their hands with soap and water, especially after using the restroom and before eating.

District 104 Action Plan for Truancy
Tier 1 or Universal
Communication and awareness are the primary Tier 1 or Universal Level interventions. This will be accomplished through PowerSchool and Attendance Intervention and Communication System.
• Daily, the office staff will attempt to contact the parents/guardians of the student(s) who are marked absent. Additionally, a daily reminder will be sent at 9:30 AM to parents, letting them know their student(s) has been marked absent.
• All student's attendance will be tracked through PowerSchool and Attendance Intervention of Communication. Attendance postcards will be sent electronically to all students at every 5 absences (5, 10, 15, 20, 25…).
Most students/families (80% or more) are expected to respond to the Universal interventions.
Tier 2
Students’ families that have between 9 and 18 absences will receive personal communication from the school and school principal.
• 9 days of absences o A truancy letter regarding absence concerns (indicating the dates of absences) will be mailed. A copy will be placed in the student’s temporary file. o Meeting with the student (when appropriate)
• 18 days of absences
- A truancy letter will be mailed and added to their file
- The building administrator will contact the family/guardian regarding concerns.
- Future absences will be marked as Truant unless accomplished by a doctor's note.
- An attendance intervention plan can be implemented via social worker and administrator.
