A Note from the Principal
Day 94/180
This snowstorm was no joke! As we continue digging out, I appreciate everyone’s patience with our dismissal procedures. The narrowing of roads due to snow has created some logistical challenges. For example, during dismissal, we will need to temporarily pause car rider traffic while school buses enter the bus lot, as buses currently must use the exit roadway, which is functioning as a one way entrance. In addition, if a bus is running late, it may become caught in the car rider line since passing is not possible. While I do not have safety concerns, these conditions will slow dismissal, and I wanted families to be aware.
With that said, the larger question many families have raised is our plan for the JES Winter Concert. The snow not only affected our original concert date but also complicates any attempt to reschedule. Typically, staff park on the back blacktop during concerts to free up parking for families. At this time, the blacktop remains fully covered in snow and is unlikely to be cleared soon. Even under ideal conditions, parking is limited and families often park along the oceanside fence. With current snowbanks, however, that option is no longer feasible. Given these conditions, continued cold temperatures, and the likelihood of additional snow, it is becoming increasingly likely that this year’s JES concert will need to be professionally recorded and shared digitally. While this is not the outcome we hoped for, it may be the safest and most realistic option. Evening elementary concerts are also not feasible based on staff contracts. I will make a final decision early next week as we continue to explore all safe options.
Fortunately, because it takes place after school when the staff parking lots are unused, the JMS Concert will take place as scheduled this evening. Doors will open at 6:15 for a 6:30 start. Even with staff spots available, parking will still be more limited than usual due to snow. Please make every effort to carpool to tonight's concert. We appreciate your patience and understanding and hope to see many of you this evening.
On a more cheerful note, next Wednesday is Global School Play Day. Students in grades K through 5 will participate in 60 minutes of screen free, creative play using hands on materials. Designated areas will be set up for grades K through 3 and grades 4 through 5. Staff will supervise and also join in the play. Last year was our first time trying this, and it was a huge success. We are very much looking forward to bringing it back.
Thank you, as always, for your flexibility and continued support.
-Mr. Shaw

👑 Kings & Queens Royal Tea Party 👑
Our kindergarteners had a truly royal time at our Kings & Queens Royal Tea Party, the culminating event for our CKLA Kings and Queens unit! Dressed in their finest royal attire, students enjoyed tea-party treats, shared smiles with friends, and celebrated all they have learned about castles, fairy tales, and the roles of kings and queens. This special day brought our learning to life and gave students the opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with joyful, memorable experiences.
