Holy Rosary School Derby
NEWSLETTER / TERM 2/ Week 4/ Friday 23rd May 2025
Message From Miss Melanie
The past two weeks have been very busy with lots of learning happening in our classrooms and teachers starting our new writing program, Talk4Writing, which teaches students how to structure the different styles of writing. The process starts with oral storytelling and then moves to shared writing of the story and finally students innovate the story to be their own version. We look forward to reading some great writing from our students across the school.
Thank you to all our families for supporting our attendance, we are now averaging 80% attendance across all year levels. This is a phenomenal achievement as we have maintained this average for approximately a year. Student learning growth is fantastic with many of our students reading and writing, in particular, showing great leaps in their development. Our staff could not support this development without regular attendance.
As a school, we value the positive relationships we with have with our families as this supports student growth. If any families have concerns or questions regarding their child's academic progress, behaviour, incidents or activities taking place in their child's classroom, please make contact with your child's classroom teacher to discuss, as this is a part of the Holy Rosary Code of Conduct. I have attached a link for families to read as this governs our behaviours and actions at school and outside of school below. We ask that families respect this process as we do not want students, staff or families to feel unsafe or that they do not belong because of matters being speculated upon outside of the classroom or school.
Families please put AUGUST 17th into your calendar as there will be a Mass at the Bungarun cemetery at 10.00am. Further details to follow closer to the date. Bishop Tim will be officiating with Fr Steve and people from Broome will also be joining our community. There will also be a morning tea afterwards.
God Bless.
Miss Melanie

Victorian Principals Visit
On Tuesday 20th May, Holy Rosary hosted a visit from a group of 18 principals from Victorian Catholic School. Fantastically coordinated by Miss Margaret, groups of students escorted groups of principals around the school and church, sharing details of what we do and a little bit about their experiences at Holy Rosary. It was lovely to hear from the principals how well spoken our students were and their level of confidence in hosting the guests. Thank you to all our volunteer host students for a great job.
Miss Margaret also prepared a fantastic presentation to the principals, sharing details of the history of Holy Rosary, details around the challenges of working in the Kimberley but most importantly highlighting the wonderful opportunities that are provided from working in the Kimberley.
