General Information
Cooper Reading Incentive Program
The library will again sponsor a school-wide home reading incentive program for our students!
Each month, students will receive a paper to color in at the beginning of each month! When students return the paper to the library, there will be incentive prizes awaiting!
Safe Routes to School Plan
This school year, the City of Superior is working with the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council to create an updated Safe Routes to School plan for Superior area schools. Throughout the semester, transportation planners will be collecting data around Cooper and all other schools in the district which will help to inform future transportation decisions at and around schools. Look for a survey in the October 14th district wide newsletter for parents and caregivers related to this project.
School pictures are now available!
To see if your child's pictures are available to view, please log in to your account at mylifetouch.com. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one using your email address.
To locate your child's photos, you'll need their Student ID or Portrait ID and Access Code. If you don't have this information, you can:
- Check your inbox for an email from Lifetouch that may contain your access credentials and a direct link to your child's images.
- Wait for your proof sheet to arrive, which will include your Portrait ID and Access Code.
- Contact the Lifetouch Help Center for assistance
Please note that pictures may not become available for all students at the same time, so check back later if you don't see your child's images yet.
From the Desk of Mrs. Stariha
Cooper Families,
October is a busy month for our Cooper Cubs. The kids have been doing a great job learning the routines as we get into the groove of the new school year. If you have not done so already, please set up your NextPath account so you can see your student's assessment results, behavior incidents, and other data. You should have received an email and seesaw message on how to set this up. If you need any help though, please let me know. (Info below!)
Finally, I will be hosting a brief, informative annual Parent Meeting where I will share about Cooper's Title I Program. I will be talking about ways in which our Cooper students benefit from Title I funds. This meeting will take place on Monday, October 5th at 6:00pm via Google Meet, with the PTA meeting following immediately after. Everyone is welcome to join!

Social and Emotional Learning
The Superior School District uses Second Step as our universal K-12 social and emotional learning curriculum. The units we cover in grades K-5 are goals and growth mindset, emotion management, empathy and kindness, and problem solving. In addition to these units, students also learn about character traits like friendship, respect, gratitude, generosity, responsibility, perseverance, honesty, and acceptance. The benefits of social and emotional learning for students include:
- Knowing and can managing themselves
- Understanding the perspectives of others and relate effectively with them
- Making sound choices about personal and social decisions
- Having more positive attitudes toward oneself, others, and tasks including enhanced self-efficacy, confidence, persistence, empathy, connection and commitment to school, and a sense of purpose
- More positive social behaviors and relationships with peers and adults
- Reduced conduct problems and risk-taking behavior
- Decreased emotional distress
- Improved test scores, grades, and attendance

Homecoming Week
St. Louis River Rendezvous
Our 4th graders had a unique experience this past week! They visited Billings Park and explored the St. Louis River Rendezvous which is a living history lesson about fur trading and what life was like in the 18th century! Some of our students even made it into a news release!
Cooper Community Garden Update
We have a bountiful harvest from our new pumpkin patch! Last spring, Mrs. Correll's 4th graders planted seeds in the garden expansion, and we ended up with nearly 30 mature pumpkins! Those students, who are now 5th graders, will be in charge of pumpkin distribution to our classrooms at Cooper!
