6th GRADE STUDENTS USE THE STREAM TABLE FROM THE ECHO CENTER
The 6th graders have had the exciting opportunity to use the Stream Table from ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Ms. Zavadil’s science classroom. Through this hands-on learning experience, students are exploring the anatomy of streams, observing how water shapes the land, and discovering ways to minimize erosion and protect our environment. The interactive Stream Table has allowed students to think like scientists and engineers while bringing their classroom learning to life in a fun and engaging way.

READ ABOUT THE STORYKEEPERS PROGRAM
Thanks to the generous support of HCS’s Partnership in Education (PiE), we are excited to share that Vermont author and historian Natalie Kinsey-Warnock will be visiting our 2nd and 4th grade classrooms from May 19th through May 28th for the Storykeepers program!
Storykeepers is a hands-on history program that teaches students how to think like historians. Throughout the week, students will learn to analyze old photographs and tools, investigate historical artifacts, and in 4th grade, use digital archives and primary sources to conduct research. Then, Natalie will lead the class through a writing workshop to help them bring their historical story to life.
CCS/HCS CONFIGURATION STUDY TO BE PRESENTED TO SCHOOL BOARD
Throughout the school year, a study committee has been evaluating the current and potential future configuration of Hinesburg Community School and Charlotte Central School, examining a wide variety of trends and data related to the schools’ current configuration and the potential impacts of moving grades 6-8 from HCS to CCS.
The study committee will present its findings and recommendation to the School Board at the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Tuesday, May 19, at CVU at 6 p.m. The meeting is also virtual (passcode: cvsd11). No action will be taken at Tuesday’s meeting, and the School Board will discuss the study and recommendation at a later date.
See the report here, which has also been linked to the agenda for the evening.

CVSD’s Annual Youth Pride Rally is back for its sixth year! The event is happening rain or shine, and students, staff, families, and community members are welcome to come and celebrate alongside us.
The Pride Rally is an opportunity for our larger community to come together and celebrate our diversity, as well as support our LGBTQ+ community members in feeling seen, celebrated, and protected. Come ready to eat, jam out, and hear from queer activists, students, and educators.
IT'S PREVENTION WEEK: SMALL CONVERSATIONS HAVE A BIG IMPACT
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) team supports students in grades 5–12 by promoting well-being, prevention, and healthy decision-making, and serves as a resource for both students and caregivers. Each May, communities across the country recognize National Prevention Week as a time to promote healthy choices, positive relationships, and mental well-being for young people. Prevention efforts are important for students. The skills children build early, such as coping with stress, making safe decisions, and asking for help, can have a lasting impact on their health and success.
Through education, connection, and supportive adults, Prevention Week reminds us that prevention is not just about avoiding risky behaviors, but about helping all students develop the confidence and resilience they need to thrive. Read more tips and conversation starters.
