Head Cheetah Message
Families,
I hope everyone had a restful break from school last week and is re-energized for the busy spring season! This week, we began to welcome the class of 2039 to Memorial School! We met so many rising Kindergarten students over the last few days, and we will wrap up our Kindergarten registration/screening process on Monday! It was wonderful to greet so many returning families, and to meet those families who are just beginning their journey in the EHPS system.
On Tuesday, our grade 3 students will begin the Smarter Balanced Assessment. This is the state summative assessment that’s administered to students in grades 3 through 8. Our students are well prepared, and we know they’re going to rock it! The whole school will be hosting a special parade on Monday afternoon to cheer them on and send them our support.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey & Andrea

Music News
Hello Memorial Families! Please find your student’s grade level below to see what we’ve been up to in music class.
Preschool: This month, students enjoyed a fish-themed lesson. We pretended to go fishing in the music room to explore with our voices, moved to a song where we pretended to be fish, and then used scarves to float like jellyfish.
Kindergarten: – This month, kindergarten students began work on a new set of musical opposites - long sounds and short sounds! They are expected to echo clap long and short patterns, create their own long and short patterns, and identify long and short sounds in various songs. They especially enjoyed the song and game called “Cut the Cake”.
First Grade: This month, we started to focus on high and low notes. Students were expected to identify high notes and low notes by ear and in writing, in many familiar music class songs like “Doggie Doggie”, “Rain Rain”, and more! Now, they are beginning to learn about the names of the notes - sol and mi - and how to read them on the music staff!
Second Grade: This month, students practiced reading, writing, and singing our new solfege note, Re. They found the note in known songs like “Hot Cross Buns” and “Bluebird” as well as a new song called “Closet Key”. Students really enjoyed learning and playing the game that goes along with “Closet Key”, which involves using teamwork and trying to hide a key from the guesser!
Third Grade: Students are working hard to meet expectations in our recorder program! By the end of our recorder unit, students are expected to have earned at least their “green belt” (level 4) in the recorder karate program! Many students are very close to earning orange or green (levels 3 and 4), and many others have already surpassed this goal!! I have enjoyed seeing students persevere and strive for excellence as they work their way through!
Please check out the music room website for more information about the music program. Feel free to reach out at any time by emailing smaldonado@easthamptonct.org.

Coaches Corner
Memorial School is getting ready for our upcoming author visit next month! We are thrilled to be welcoming local author, Ryan SanAngleo, on Friday, May 29th. Ryan will be doing grade appropriate presentations that involve motivational talks, exciting book readings and entertaining song performances. He will be sharing his journey to inspire our young writers here at Memorial. If you are interested in purchasing any of his books, we have shared the order form via ParentSquare and a physical copy went home in backpacks. We will be accepting order forms until May 22. To learn more about Ryan SanAngelo, you can visit his website at www.ryansanangelo.com. Thank you to our wonderful PTO for sponsoring this exciting event!
Notes From the Nurses Office
Stay at Home Guidelines:
Memorial School understands that deciding when a child or family member is too sick
to go to school or work can be a difficult decision. When trying to decide, use the guidelines
below and seek the advice of your health care provider. Anyone with the following symptoms should not attend school.
Symptoms can vary, but symptoms may include:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever equal to or above 100.4 degrees
- Chills
- Body aches
- Sore throat
- Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
If students or family members experience any of the above symptoms, please stay home and
contact your health care provider for further instructions. Sending sick children to school is not in
the best interest of the child or their classmates. Children should not be given any medications
such as: Tylenol, Motrin or Advil prior to school to reduce fever. Any child who has vomited or had diarrhea and/or a fever within 24 hours should not be sent to school.

Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
