Principal's Office
Wow! Can you believe we are already moving into November. Time flies when you are busy and we have been busy bears this fall. I want to take a moment to thank you for your contributions to the first part of this school year. We have come a long way from where we started, but still have a long way to go. To our parents who sent their kids back to school face to face, we want to say thank you for your patience in the mornings as we check temperatures and ask screening questions. Thank you for making sure your children are coming to school with their masks on and with the expectation to social distance themselves as much as possible. It takes a concerted effort from all of us to keep each other safe. To the parents of our remote learners, we thank you for helping your children stay connected and engaged during this time of remote learning. I must say we miss seeing all of our students face to face, but certainly understand the hesitation in sending them back to school.
Remote Learner Engagement Expectations
I cannot stress how important it is for our remote learners to stay actively engaged in their school work. A vast majority of our students are doing a great job connecting and are managing to complete all of their work on a regular basis, but there are some who seem to be struggling in this remote environment for one reason or another. In order for students to be promoted to the next grade level, they must first demonstrate proficiency at their current grade level. If they are not connecting and getting their work done, they are not demonstrating grade level proficiency. As a school staff, we cannot consider promoting students who have not done the grade level required school work. Therefore, if your student is not being successful with remote learning or is not connecting, we would like for you to consider sending them back face to face before it is too late for them to make up all of the missing assignments and we have to consider retaining them at their current grade level. Please keep in mind that we want every child to be successful and if they are not being successful learning remotely, we are here and want to work with you to ensure their success.
Volunteers needed
As you know, we have not been able to use the playground equipment this year due to COVID concerns. Therefore, we have been looking for ways to spruce recess up a bit. We are going to be using stencils to paint our blacktop so that our students have more choices at recess. We are looking to do this the week of Thanksgiving break and need 5-10 volunteers to help with the process. If you are handy with a paint brush or just want to help your child's school improve recess for all students, please email me (bltriche@garlandisd.net) or our AP Liliana Marquez (lmmarque@garlandisd.net) for more information.
