The Pottsville Area School District has partnered with JusticeWorks Truancy Prevention Program! We now have a truancy prevention specialist who works on-site at John S. Clarke Elementary Center, to provide school truancy prevention services to our students and their families.

John S. Clarke's Truancy Prevention Specialist is Mrs. Maggie Kuhns. Together, we are working with families to remove barriers that prevent students from attending school regularly.

We would like to thank all parents, guardians, and family members who completed the 'Knowledge of JSC Supports and Processes' survey in a previous newsletter. A total of 75 people took the survey.

What were the results?

Regarding knowledge of ACADEMIC SUPPORTS available to students at JSC:

37% felt they have GOOD or EXCELLENT knowledge of academic supports available to students.

Regarding BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS:

40% felt they had GOOD or EXCELLENT knowledge of behavioral supports available to students.

Regarding Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS):

60% felt they had GOOD or EXCELLENT knowledge of PBIS supports used at JSC.

What does this mean?

Our goal is to have 100% of parents and guardians feel confident (having GOOD or EXCELLENT knowledge) about the supports available to their children at John S. Clarke Elementary Center. Therefore, we will work to improve our communication in these areas. We want everyone to know all the reasons why JSC is the place to be!

What are our next steps?

Our next steps will be to create a series of brief, informative videos that explain the supports available to the students of John S. Clarke Elementary Center. This series of videos will showcase "All the little things that make JSC the place to be!" We plan to create and release a new video each month. Check out our first video, "JSC is the place to be for...TIDE Time."

The PTO Holiday Shop will run from Wednesday, December 4th through Wednesday, December 11th. The Holiday Shop allows students to purchase small items for their family members and friends. You will receive more information soon!

Congratulations to our Students of the Month (November) at JSC!

JSC uses Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to support students. This PBIS framework helps us teach students expected behaviors and social skills by utilizing a three-tiered approach of interventions to support the needs of all students.

Last week, JSC PBIS received recognition for implementing three tiers of support with fidelity during the 2023-2024 school year. JSC staff members Mrs. Bosak, Ms. Kleeman, and Mrs. Gunoskey accepted the PBIS banner of recognition, which will be proudly displayed in our school lobby. Roll Tide!

Students in Ms. Parker's class had a blast while learning about different types of landforms. Look at those smiling faces!

Bring the kids to celebrate with Santa at the Pottsville Free Public Library's yearly Christmas Party! There will be crafts & treats & of course an opportunity to talk to Santa! Recommended for ages 3-11. Please register by calling 570-622-8880 ext 12, or emailing potchild@pottsvillelibrary.org. Party will be Tuesday, December 17th at 5:30. Please register by December 3rd.
