Principal's Notes
What a week at Cole School! Between Teacher Appreciation Week, School Nurse's Day, and the Variety Show, we have been buzzing with activity! The teaching staff definitely felt the love and appreciation this week with special meals, baskets of thanks, and homemade cards from students! Thank you all for taking time out of your week to help your child express appreciation to their teachers and for the donations to class and school appreciation events.
Math MCAS took place in grade 4 this week and will take place in grades 3 and 5 next week. Our students have made us so very proud by putting their best effort into the testing. We can't ask for more than that!
The Variety Show was SPECTACULAR! Thank you to our courageous student performers for creative acts! Many thanks to the parents for helping get students to the rehearsals and for helping to find time to practice and prepare costumes! The greatest appreciation goes out to Mrs. Carney, Mr. and Mrs. Kaszuba, and Mrs. Stone for their leadership in pulling not one but two shows together with all the bells and whistles including star cookies, a phenomenal playbill (thanks to Mrs. Kenney), and sweet concessions! It was all so very well done and a great time was had by all!
We had so many students nominated this week for Magnificent Meerkats! Check out some of the reasons given for their nominations:
- She consistently has a strong work ethic, is kind and respectful to others, and consistently shows expected behaviors throughout the day.
- I am very proud of his hard work. Each week, he comes to our session ready to tackle challenging problems. He isn't getting discouraged by the work. Instead, he is trying different strategies and taking time to explain his thinking. He has become a very coachable student and I'm so happy to nominate him as a Magnificent Meerkat!
- She has answered the call to live up to the high expectations we've set and looked for all year from the students. She is consistently one of the first students to be ready to roll on any given lesson or line or activity, showing whole body listening and excellent self control.
- He has been working hard to get himself ready for fourth grade. I've been looking for students to show the kind of whole body listening and self control expected as we finish the year and he has responded by crushing it all day long as a mystery walker and resetting himself in times of silliness.
Specialists' Scoop
We finished our Volleyball Unit this week. Kindergarten worked on striking with a beach ball. First grade practiced bumping and setting with a rubber ball. Second grade rallied using a volleyball trainer. Grades 3-5 played games of volleyball while keeping score, rotating and having fun.
