April ~ Staying Connected
National Welding Career Month
Stepping beyond the classroom and into real-world environments is a powerful part of the learning experience at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology. Recently, our Welding students had the opportunity to visit the Steamfitters Local 420 Training Center, where they explored what a future career in the skilled trades truly looks like.
During their visit, students engaged with advanced industry equipment and observed real-world applications of the skills they are developing in the lab. This hands-on exposure not only reinforced their technical training but also provided valuable insight into the expectations, opportunities, and career pathways within the welding and steamfitting industries.
Experiences like this are essential in Career and Technical Education, as they bridge the gap between classroom instruction and the workforce. By seeing professionals in action and interacting with industry experts, students gain a deeper understanding of their chosen field and the confidence to pursue it.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Steamfitters Union Local 420 for their warm welcome and for investing in the next generation of skilled professionals. Opportunities like this leave a lasting impact and help prepare our students for successful futures.
Building a Love of Reading
As part of the nationwide celebration of Read Across America, Middle Bucks Institute of Technology was proud to welcome Representative Kristin Marcell for a special visit with our youngest learners at Li’l Bucks Partners in Learning.
Representative Marcell spent time reading with students, sharing stories, and engaging in meaningful conversation that brought books to life in the classroom. Her visit created an exciting and memorable experience for our preschool learners, reinforcing the importance of literacy in a way that was both fun and impactful.
Opportunities like this go far beyond story time. Early exposure to reading helps build critical language and comprehension skills, while also fostering curiosity, imagination, and confidence. Having a community leader take the time to connect with students sends a powerful message about the value of education and the role it plays in shaping future success.
We are grateful to Representative Marcell for her time, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting education in Bucks County. Her visit is a reminder of the strong partnerships that continue to enrich the learning experiences of our students and strengthen the connection between our school and the community.

Training that goes beyond the classroom
Training that extends beyond the classroom is a cornerstone of the Public Safety program at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology. Recently, students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on training at the Bucks County Fire Training Center, where they applied their skills in a real-world setting designed to mirror emergency response situations.
During their time at the training center, students engaged in a variety of drills and scenario-based exercises that challenged them to think critically, act quickly, and work as a team. From practicing fireground operations to responding to simulated emergencies, these experiences allowed students to build both technical skills and the confidence needed to perform under pressure.
This type of immersive, learn-by-doing training is essential in preparing students for careers in public safety. It reinforces classroom instruction while developing the mindset, discipline, and situational awareness required in high-stakes environments. By stepping into realistic scenarios, students gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to respond effectively when it matters most.
Opportunities like this not only strengthen skill development but also inspire students to pursue meaningful careers in fire service, emergency response, and public safety fields.
Student Voices Take the National Stage
We are incredibly proud of our MBIT Media Associates, Maddie Kaufman and Natalie Horvath, for stepping onto a national stage for the very first time. Representing Middle Bucks Institute of Technology at the ACTE National Policy Seminar, these students demonstrated not only their technical skills, but also their growth as confident communicators and storytellers.
What makes this moment especially meaningful is the journey behind it. These students, who often work behind the camera capturing the stories of others, took on a new challenge by stepping in front of a national audience. Presenting alongside educational leaders and policymakers, they shared their firsthand experiences, offering an authentic perspective on Career and Technical Education and the impact it has on students’ lives.
Their ability to clearly communicate, represent their school, and engage with professionals at such a high level is a testament to the strength of MBIT’s Media Associate program. It reflects the importance of providing students with real opportunities to develop both technical and professional skills, preparing them not just for careers, but for leadership.
This experience highlights a powerful truth: the future of storytelling is already here, and it is being shaped by students. Through their voices, creativity, and lived experiences, they are helping to redefine how the story of Career and Technical Education is told making it more authentic, more impactful, and more connected to the real world.

Innovation in Action: Student Initiative Brings Hydroponics to Life 🌱
While we anticipate the arrival of a new hydroponics tower, Simon Hazelrigg, a Level 100 student in the Landscape Systems & Outdoor Construction program, took initiative to bring learning to life in the meantime.
Using leftover materials and an upcycled bin from the Plumbing program, along with reused growing materials, cups, and stakes, Simon designed and built his own hydroponic system from the ground up. His system is already producing results, with tomatoes growing successfully through this innovative approach.
What makes this project even more impactful is its full-circle connection across programs. Those same tomatoes will be shared with students in the Culinary Arts program, reinforcing collaboration and real-world application.
This is what learn-by-doing looks like in action. Where creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills come together to make a meaningful impact.
