Panther Proud!!! Panther Proud!!!

The NJROTC Military Ball at Proviso West High School is a formal event that celebrates the dedication, discipline, and leadership of our cadets. This annual tradition reflects the core values of honor and commitment upheld by the Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. It’s a night of pride, where students, families, and staff come together to recognize the hard work and achievements of our NJROTC program. The program is led under the leadership of Master Chief Rushing and Senior Chief Hawley-Williams.

Pancakes and Games and Reptiles—Oh My!

Saturday, April 12, Proviso West National Honor Society held its first ever Breakfast with The Easter Lizard, a fun twist on a standard Easter Bunny event.

No Easter bunnies were present, but instead attendees were treated to a pancake breakfast where chocolate chip pancakes were an especially popular choice. Children aged 2-12 also participated in games and activities, from bean bag toss to face painting, collecting their colorful easter egg prizes and candies in their crafted Easter basket.

The main event was a pair of reptile shows presented by Dave Dinaso’s Traveling World of Reptiles. Children got to learn about a variety of reptiles, through a fun, interactive presentation. Children and adults got to get up close and personal with a 15-foot boa constrictor, a blue-tongued skink, a snapping turtle, a red tegu lizard…and even a tarantula! Children got to touch most of the animals (yes—even the tarantula!) and learned about why reptiles and spiders are so important to our planet.

If you missed this fun Easter Lizard event, join us next year!

Spotlight on Drawing and Painting: Enlarging with Durer’s Grid

Students in Mr. Shipley’s Drawing and Painting class at Proviso West recently explored a classic artistic technique using a Durer’s Grid—named after the famed artist Albrecht Durer—to create stunning enlarged drawings. Each student selected a 5” x 7” black and white photo and used the grid method to accurately enlarge their image to 10” x 14”. To bring their work to life, they added depth and dimension through detailed shading with ebony pencils and blending stumps, showcasing impressive skill and artistic growth.
