Benton Weekly Update
Week 16: December 11 – 15, 2023

Monday Holiday, 8th Grade Photos, Dine Out Fundraiser, Sports Tourney Friday
It will be sunny but cold this week, students should continue to dress warmly. As you can see to the right, we had a moderate bit of flooding last week, and a few small roof leaks, but we came through the storm relatively unscathed and we are patching those holes!
Although a short week with our Lincoln's Birthday Holiday, we have a lot happening. On Tuesday 8th grade students will have their hearing screenings (and you'll have answers whether they can't hear or if they're just ignoring you!)
Wednesday, 8th Graders should make sure they are present and ready for their close up! We are taking Promotion Portraits in the morning, and the 8th Grade Panoramic photo right before lunch. Students can order their pictures online or with cash/checks Wednesday. Framed Panoramic Photos are $20. The Lifetouch flyer/payment envelopes were sent home, but more are available in the office.
Also on Wednesday, show your Valentine a little love by picking up dinner at Panera. Our Dine Out Fundraiser is at Panera on 2/14. Use code FUND4U on checkout.
Basketball and Soccer teams from the 5 middle schools will compete in a tournament on Friday at Benton. The parking lot gate will open to spectators at 8:50am. Only participating students will be allowed to attend the tournament. No pets on campus, please.
RESCHEDULED: 8th Grade Events Parent Planning Meeting will be Tuesday, 2/20 at 6pm in the MPR. This is for 8th Grade Parents who are interested in helping to plan and organize the 8th Grade End of the Year Events such as Disneyland, the Dance, Breakfast, and Barbeque.
Please make sure that all 6th & 7th Graders turn in their course request forms for next year if they have not already done so. The forms are also linked on our webpage under the Students tab. If you have a 5th grader who will be attending Benton next year, the course request forms were distributed by their elementary schools; if your student did not receive one, check with their teacher or download the (incoming) 6th Grade Course Request Form from our webpage.
College and Career anyone? Benton is hosting a Career Day on March 6. Students will be able to attend 3 different presentations from individuals working in an array of jobs and trades. Sessions will run from 9:00am-10:30am; speakers will give three 30-minute presentations to different groups of students. If you would like to be a presenter and can commit to being available on 3/6/24, please contact Mr. Bob Easton at beaston@nlmusd.org for more information.
Check out the new tab on our website with information and news just for 8th grade students and their families.
Make it a great week!
