Dear Leeds Future Stars Families,
I wish you health, happiness, and peace for the New Year. As we celebrate this new year, 2024, it is always a great time for looking back to the past, but more importantly, looking forward to the coming year. It is a time to reflect on the changes we want, or need, to make and resolve to follow through on those changes.
I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season and that your children are as excited to be back, as we are excited to have them! So far, the 2023-2024 school year has been filled with energy and a passion for learning. I can see it on your kids’ faces and hear it in their conversations. They are eager to continue their learning and we are eager to teach them! As we enter 2024, we often create resolutions as this is a natural time to “reboot.” At Leeds Elementary School, we take this time to reemphasize our philosophy of continuous improvement, and our goal of giving kids what they need, when they need it. We live these words each day as we constantly adjust our instruction to meet the needs of our students. What that means to us is that each day, we strive to deliver the best instruction, based on what our kids each need individually. We believe that Leeds Elementary School is a GREAT school, in a GREAT school district, and in 2024 we will continue with our promise to meet the needs of each child, each day, so that they can reach their full potential.
Happy 2024!
Mr. Koch
Principal, Leeds Elementary School
Counselor Corner
Hello Future Stars Families!
I hope everyone has had a great month, even with all the cold and snow! I know I am ready for winter to be over already! We are beginning our next round of classroom lessons this week and will be learning about coping skills. Earlier in the year we talked about our brains, remember the Thoughtful Turtle and Protective Porcupine, and this will be an extension of that. We will review how our Turtle helps us make decision and remain calm and how our Porcupine keeps us safe. The coping skills we practice are things we can use when our Porcupine gets a little too worked up! Hopefully your student(s) will be able to tell you about some new coping skills in the next couple of weeks.
Looking ahead to February, we will be having Kindness Week around Valentine's Day. Dress up days and ideas for random acts of kindness will be sent home in early February!
As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us! We have so much fun here at Leeds!
Mrs. Roskilly

Cost for Damaged or Destroyed Devices
The District provides every student with a device to enhance the overall learning experience. When a student receives their device, it is their responsibility to take appropriate care of the device. Unfortunately, the District has hundreds of devices damaged or destroyed each year. Damage to devices or lost devices could result in fines and reduced Internet access. Detailed information on fees is available in the Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook on the District website. We encourage you to remind your student about the responsibility that goes with having a device.

Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
