Red Oak Principal Notes
A Family Newsletter for the Red Oak Raiders 1/8/24
Mission
Vision
Hello Red Oak Families!
Happy Monday! We are ready for our first full week at Red and were so excited to see our kids today. We have a full spring semester planned for our students with some fun changes. We will be implementing a Club Time on our First Friday Spirit Days! Your students will choose a club that they would like to participate in from 1:45-2:30 once a month. We hope to foster connections and relationships across the building during this time!
Report cards are coming home soon! These will be printed and sent home in an envelope for you to sign and have your student return to their homeroom teacher. If you have any questions, please make sure to reach out to the teacher!
If you have any interest in volunteering at Red Oak, we would love to have you! We are expecially in need of people to hang artwork, read to students, and help out in classrooms. If you are willing to donate your time in any way, please read the volunteer paperwork procedures listed here in the newsletter. We would love to have you in our building!
This newsletter will come out to families weekly to keep our households informed of what is happening at Red Oak Elementary. I will send out the link every Monday via Remind and Facebook.
Let me know what I can do for you,
Emily Ellsworth

NIT Information!
NTI booklets came home in November! Please remember to keep these booklets in a safe location. All work will be located in Google Classroom, but the packets are to be completed if you have no internet access.
- Please check for school closing announcements on the Lexington T.V. stations. Closings are also posted on the District’s website and Facebook page.
- Please take a look at the Jessamine County Code of Conduct (p.35-36), to find the school closing protocols like a two hour delay or early school dismissal. This includes the names of roads that may not be traveled.
- School closings will be determined prior to 6:00am.
- A Two-Hour Delay will be called if the forecast will allow for roads to clear and students and staff to safely travel to schools.
- Students must complete one day of NTI work for each day we are out of school. Your child’s teacher will be available by email from 9:00am-3:00pm to answer questions.
- If we are out more than one day at a time, students will complete one day of work for each day missed. Remember, this is the same as homework. If it is not completed, it carries the same consequence as not doing homework.
VOLUNTEER POLICY!
See below:
Volunteers - CENTRAL REGISTRY CHECK
To be a volunteer who works directly with students in Jessamine County Schools, Child Abuse/Neglect procedures are required and regulated by Kentucky law and school board policy. Upon requesting to be a volunteer, every person must submit to the AOC crime check and complete a DPP-156 from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services showing no substantiated reports of child abuse or neglect.
For the Child Abuse/Neglect check the DPP-156 form must be completed online. Go Here
and click CREATE ACCOUNT. Enter your information and check the DPP-156 form. You must add that you would like for us to have access to your records and include our email for confirmation. You will be given a unique code to submit for payment.

Interested in eating lunch with your student?? We would LOVE to have you!
1. You must check in with the front office with a current photo ID.
2. You must be on the students list of emergency contacts in Infinite Campus.
3. Your visit allows you to eat in the cafeteria and leave immediately following after signing out in the front office.
4. We ask that no parents or visitors walk to their child's classroom after lunch. Our teachers work hard to protect the learning environment for our students and we ask for your full cooperation in this manner.
Parent Survey about Student Meals
Jessamine Co. Schools' Food Service Department's Mission is "To prepare students for learning by providing appealing and inviting meals, exposing students to local food items, and encouraging lifelong habits of healthy food choices." We value feedback from parents/guardians as we strive to serve quality meals that students enjoy. We are pleased that all Jessamine Co. Schools offer both Breakfast & Lunch to all students at NO COST. We participate in the Community Eligibility Provision which is funded through the USDA. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts with us! (Survey will accept responses through November 20, 2023.) Click here to fill out the survey.

Payments and Class Fees
Families can use their Parent Portal to pay for field trips, classroom fees, and to put money in student cafeteria accounts. There are no fees associated with online payments through the Parent Portal. Online payments are optional; students may still bring in cash or a check. All RED students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost, regardless of household size or income during the 2021-2022 school year. Families may choose to put money in a student’s cafeteria account to allow the student to purchase extra food/drink. Online payments are STRONGLY encouraged.
The 23-24 School Fees have been added to Infinite Campus as well as any outstanding fees associated with Chromebook damages from last year. Please login to IC Parent Portal to pay these fees. Our fees this year are $25.
Meal Eligibility
Jessamine Co. is very fortunate to be able to continue participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This allows all students to receive one (1) BREAKFAST and one (1) LUNCH at NO COST every day school is in session.
Meal Benefit Application - found in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal
Educational Benefit Form (EBF) - paper form available in the front office of each school or the Food Service Office in the Central Office Annex.
Why should families complete one of these forms when students don’t have to pay for meals?
Students who have a Free or Reduced Meal ELIGIBILITY:
Have school technology fees waived or reduced
Have Field Trip Fees waived or reduced
Have Athletic Fees waived or reduced
(Students with a FREE Meal Eligibility have these fees waived 100%, students with a REDUCED Meal Eligibility have these fees reduced by 50%)
