Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
THANK YOU TEACHERS AND STAFF!
The weather did not cooperate with our idea to "Chalk the Walk," but we improvised! Thank you, to the students and families that came on Sunday afternoon to help create these chalk posters that we hung around the building to show our teachers and staff how much they are appreciated. We love our Scott Middle School Staff!
What Has Been Happening in Mrs. Fox's Classroom?
Our classes are working on Trans Math and trying to close the gap for their learning. Everyone has made growth in various areas of math. Both on Trans Math benchmarks and IXL assessments. Students had growth from one assessment to the next.
We are working hard on word problems, identifying the multiple steps in the problems, identifying the two operations needed to solve, setting up their problems, labeling their answers and explaining their answers.
We worked hard on multiplication of two-to-three-digit numbers and multiplying by two- and three-digit numbers. Our classes do not use calculators. We use our tables sheets and memorization.
We worked on fractions- Addition and Subtraction as well as Multiplying and Dividing fractions.
We also worked with decimals - completing all four operations.
Our classes work hard, and we also have time to play. My 7th graders love playing Uno for fun and having free time listening to their music with headphones. They work very hard, so I try to reward them as often as I can. My 7th graders are so respectful and a joy to teach. They brighten my day every day.
My 6th graders are working hard as well. Some work at a slower pace and need more one on one time. I try my best to give everyone their one-on-one time to assure that they are learning and progressing. The 6th graders are learning to communicate positively with each other and we are doing things to work on socialization. We use our manners, and we try to compliment each other. We praise each other as we meet our milestones. We do the alligator clap and cheer each other on. My 6th graders like to work for movies and donuts and work towards pizza parties.
All my students worked to meet their goals to earn a beanie baby from me. It amazes me how they work for the recognition. They loved getting a beanie baby. Once they earned one, I moved onto another way to reward time. One month we worked on earning inspirational message bracelets. They tried hard to meet their goals, to earn a second and third bracelet.
My students love to laugh, and I even teach them some Italian words from time to time. We joke around and have cute nicknames for each other.
They make my day enjoyable, full of love and laughs, exciting and at times hard. But, I wouldn't trade them with anything in the world. I love them all and they know it.

April's Students of the Month... Clarke Walker and Nyla Glassco
Clarke: Clarke has come a long way this year. He has worked hard to turn things around. Clarke has been working very hard in classes. He is participating, completing work and being a positive role model.
Nyla: Nyla has really turned things around this year! She has worked SO hard at reading, come out of her comfort zone in her other classes as far as putting herself out there. Nyla is kind and courteous to everyone. She made a 360-degree change in my class this past marking period. She is more focused and completes her work, and is doing so much better as a result!
Both students are hard workers and show respectful behaviors daily. They have had a wonderful school year so far, and we are very proud of them! Keep up the great work!
Congratulations, Mrs. Hamilton! April's Employee of the Month
Congratulations, Mrs. Hamilton! We are so happy to have her as a part of our Scott team. Mrs. Hamilton is always pleasant and she takes things in stride, with a smile on her face. She has done a great job organizing and running the PSSA's. She goes above and beyond for the students of Scott and her door is always open. She has shown a ton a patience this year with both students and staff. Mrs. Hamilton has worked hard meeting the needs of so many students and by helping with conflict resolution. Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton for all that you do to help our students and staff succeed at Scott!
We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mrs. Fogg, Ms. Guy, and Ms Gable. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Dunkin. We have an amazing team here at Scott.

May's PBIS Focus... Cell Phones Off and Away
Students that met April's Attendance Challenge of being in school 16 of the 18 school days (Excused absences did not count) were able to celebrate with recess during their ELA class last Friday. Students that did not meet that expectation went to the library and used the time to catch up on work.
This month we will be focusing again on keeping cell phones off and away. The expectation is that when students enter the building, their cell phones are turned off and put away. Students should not have their phones out during class, in the hallways or during lunch. Students that follow this expectation for the month of May will be be rewarded at the end of the month.
Thank you for supporting this initiative!
