BAS Bond and BHS Specific Information
As you all know at this point, Brighton Area Schools currently has a bond proposal that will be on the ballot as part of a May 5th election. This bond had the ability to impact all of the schools within the district, but has specific implications for BHS as well.
There are informational flyers in the Main Office and poster boards in the front vestibule as you enter the building outlining important information on the bond, as well as building specific information about what changes are proposed. If you have more questions, we recently received a BHS-specific bond board that not only outlines bond basics if you have questions, but also has BHS-specific details about projects included in the bond application. The BHS-specific Bond Board can be found here.
Senior Class Council Kindness Video
As part of Kindness Month at BHS, our Senior Class Council worked with our district technology team to put together a kindness video. Senior Class Council asked our students to share something kind that’s happened to them or kindness they have given. You can view the finished product here.
DECA States Success
We are so proud of our 66 DECA members who competed at States this past weekend, March 5 - 7, 2026
BHS DECA brought home an impressive haul of 46 medals, including 20 State Finalists, 9 State Champions, 1 School-Based Enterprise State Champion, 1 Gold Merit State Finalist, and 4 Leadership Academy qualifiers.
12 Brighton students will proudly represent Michigan DECA at Internationals in Atlanta, Georgia, this April.
Their achievement highlights Brighton DECA's commitment to excellence and leadership. Congratulations BHS DECA!
MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival Success
Thursday's trip to MSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival was a MASSIVE success for all of our students and staff. There were so many victories for the BHS Band program. Both bands received an overall First Division Rating (1) in performance and sight-reading (on a 1-5 scale, with 1 being the best), with Wind Ensemble receiving a sweep of First Division ratings from all four judges. The BHS Band Program had PERFECT ATTENDANCE!
Most importantly: every single judge wrote comments about how both bands had a strong, professional look, with excellent stage deportment. Judges are not required to give comments about how programs carry and conduct themselves, but they all went out of their way to tell us 'good job' - that speaks volumes about who we are and what we do. We are so proud of all our students and staff involved for representing Brighton with class!
If interested, recordings of the day's performances can be found here:
ParentConnect Access and Review
One of the simplest and most powerful ways to support your student’s success is by regularly checking their grades and progress through ParentConnect. If you have never accessed ParentConnect, it gives you the ability to stay up to date on your student’s grades, assignments, and attendance. Even a few minutes each week can make a big difference. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your student’s growth and success.
In case you do not have the link at your disposal, you can access ParentConnect below:
In order to log in, you will need a PIN and password. If you never received these items, or need them provided to you, you can contact pc@brightonk12.com and they will be able to assist you.
Student Parking Reminders
We are seeing an increase in the number of students who are parking in various parking lots at BHS without parking passes, or parking in lots other than the ones specified by their parking pass hang tags. Please keep in mind, parking passes are required to park at BHS and additional parking information can be found here. Hard copies of parking information can also be found in the Main Office.
As outlined in the student parking documents, parking in the wrong lot or parking on campus without a parking pass can lead to students being ticketed. Repeated violations of the school's parking policies or violations of the building's close campus policy can result in the loss of parking privileges. This includes students parking their non-EV cars in designated EV parking spaces.
Digital Readiness Check - Wednesday, March 18th Instructions
Once again this year we will need to have all 9th through 11th graders complete their Digital Readiness Check in advance of this spring's standardized testing. We will utilize Advisory to complete these mandatory Digital Readiness Checks. Please encourage your student(s) to go to the appropriate location at the appropriate time. If they missed completing their Digital Readiness Check on the 4th, they will need to attend on the 18th, otherwise we will be calling them down from class to complete this required Digital Readiness Check prior to April's testing. We would like to avoid them missing instructional time if possible. The schedule is provided below with specific details to follow:
- March 4th - 10th and 11th Graders
- March 18th - 9th Graders
This past Wednesday, our 10th and 11th Graders completed their Digital Readiness Check based on the following details (9th graders will complete their Digital Readiness Check in the BHS Fieldhouse on March 18th following the same guidelines):
- 11th Graders completed their Digital Readiness Check in the Fieldhouse during Advisory. This was done in two waves.
- If their Advisory teacher's last name starts with the letter A - G, they reported directly to the Fieldhouse. After completing their Digital Readiness Check, they went to Advisory for the remainder of the period.
- If their Advisory teacher's last name starts with the letter H - Z, they reported directly to their Advisory class. When an announcement was made dismissing them to complete their Digital Readiness Check, they went to the Fieldhouse for the remainder of the period.
- 10th Graders completed their Digital Readiness Check in the Aux Gym during Advisory. This was done in two waves.
- If their Advisory teacher's last name starts with the letter A - G, they reported directly to the Aux Gym. After completing their Digital Readiness Check, they went to Advisory for the remainder of the period.
- If their Advisory teacher's last name starts with the letter H - Z, they reported directly to their Advisory class. When an announcement was made dismissing them to complete their Digital Readiness Check, they went go to the Aux Gym for the remainder of the period.
Upcoming Practice PSAT/SAT Opportunity (9th through 11th Graders)
We will have one more structured practice standardized testing opportunity for our 9th through 11th graders. When this will take place depends on when they are completing their Digital Readiness Check. Details are provided below:
9th Graders:
- Our Freshmen had the opportunity to complete this on Wednesday, March 4th while our 10th and 11th graders completed their Digital Readiness Check. After completing their practice test in Advisory, we collected answer sheets, will analyze results, and share them with students and families to identify areas of strength and for improvement. We will provide the questions, answers, and rationales for each question, much like we did following the last structured practice opportunity. Any students who missed this opportunity and would still like to be able to complete the practice assessment can reach out to their grade level principal and we can provide them with the testing materials.
10th Graders:
- Wednesday, March 18th while our 9th graders are completing their Digital Readiness Check. After completing their practice test in Advisory, we will collect answer sheets, analyze results, and share them with students and families to identify areas of strength and for improvement. We will provide the questions, answers, and rationales for each question, much like we did following the last structured practice opportunity.
11th Graders:
- Wednesday, March 18th while our 9th graders are completing their Digital Readiness Check. After completing their practice test in Advisory, we will collect answer sheets, analyze results, and share them with students and families to identify areas of strength and for improvement. We will provide the questions, answers, and rationales for each question, much like we did following the last structured practice opportunity.
PSAT/SAT Student Guides
Below you will find the student guides for the upcoming Spring standardized testing for this year.
These student guides provide a wealth of information that you and/or your student(s) may find helpful in advance of the upcoming testing. Information provided in these guides includes, but is not limited to, basic test information (sections and testing times), practice test opportunities, important information for both before the test and after, scoring information, score reporting, as well as testing policies and procedures. One of the important policies to be aware of is that students are NOT allowed to access any electronic devices from the time the test starts until the time it ends, including during any breaks that are a part of the testing session. 2026 Champions for Children Nominations Now Open
2026 Champions for Children Nominations Now Open
Annual awards recognize individuals/organizations making a positive impact on local kids
Howell, MI – Do you know someone making the community a safer, stronger, better place for children to grow and thrive? LACASA Center’s CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Council and Great Start Livingston/Help Me Grow Livingston are now accepting nominations for the annual Champions for Children awards. As a part of the National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, these awards recognize the individuals and organizations whose positive impact is reflected in the lives of the children and families around them.
“Whether it’s a coach, a teacher, a mentor, or a nonprofit, we all know someone or some organization going the extra mile to support children,” said Great Start Livingston/Help Me Grow Livingston Coordinator Robin Schutz. “The Champions for Children Award seeks to recognize them and lift up their stories, so we encourage community members to nominate the individuals or organizations helping children grow, learn, and thrive.”
“Child abuse prevention goes far beyond simply identifying and protecting kids in abusive homes,” said LACASA CAP Council Coordinator Holly Naylor. “Being a stable, encouraging adult for children experiencing turmoil, offering a safe and welcoming environment for struggling children and families, and reaching out to support parents can make a huge impact on a child’s life but these efforts often go unrecognized. We invite you to shine a light on these advocates of children and families so that we can all thank them for their dedication.”
A selection committee will review all nominations and choose this year's award recipients. The nominators of the winners will have the honor of presenting the award at the annual Plant a Pinwheel event on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at noon at the Howell Carnegie Library.
“This special moment empowers the nominator to speak from the heart about how a Champion has impacted children's lives,” Schutz said. “Their stories bring the honorees’ impact to life and highlight the inspiring work they do every day, and we look forward to recognizing both the nominators and the recipients at our Plant a Pinwheel event.”
Nominations will be accepted through Monday, March 16, 2026.
To nominate an individual Champion for Children, click here: https://forms.gle/1HpmLqhkL92f4vp2A.
To nominate a group or organization, click here: https://forms.gle/AD9bVV573Q7sHv6u9.
LACASA’s CAP Council and Great Start Livingston/Help Me Grow Livingston strongly encourage anyone submitting a nomination to hold the time and day of the award presentation in case their nominee is selected as one of this year’s winners.
For any questions or to make a nomination via email please contact the CAP Council at capcouncil@lacasacenter.org or call (517) 548-1350 for more information.
About CAP Council

Tutoring Options at BHS
National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.
In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.
The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.

Do you know a junior female student who is deserving of local and/or state recognition for excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and potential for future success? Encourage her to apply for this $700 Livingston County Rising Star Award which, when selected, comes with assistance in applying for a $2.5K Star Scholarship at the state level. P.E.O. International and our local Chapter FU/Brighton MI are philanthropic nonprofits committed to assisting women in reaching their educational goals through grants, awards, scholarships, and loans. Our projects include scholarships for high school women, international college students, PhD candidates, and more! (See the website link, below in our social media/distribution kit, regarding the 501(c)(3).)
In our chapter, we have many current and former educators, coaches, and student mentors, one of whom will partner with your student, if selected, to move forward in the state process.
