⭐ PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE ⭐
Dear Parents and Carers,
This fortnight has been filled with both moments of celebration and reflection.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague, Terry Herd. Terry was a valued member of our school community for over 20 years. Her connection to Regents Park Public School began as a parent, before she generously gave her time as a volunteer in the canteen and classrooms. Terry later became an SLSO, supporting students in literacy, and more recently worked in our library and front office. We are so grateful for her contribution and presence in our school. Thank you to all the children and parents who have expressed their condolences—your kind words have been very much appreciated.
Book Week Celebrations
A huge thank you to Ms Taouk for her incredible effort in organising our Book Week activities last week, which culminated in the muchloved Book Week Character Parade on Friday. The creativity and enthusiasm shown by students and families was wonderful to see.
Father’s Day Stall & Breakfast – Thursday, 4 September
Fathers, Grandfathers and Carers are warmly invited to join us for a Father’s Day Breakfast at 8:45 am, followed by the Father’s Day Stall, which will run throughout the day. This is a special opportunity for students to choose a gift while celebrating the important role of fathers and carers in their lives. Thank you in advance to our parent helpers for supporting this event.
Checkin Assessments
Checkin Assessments for Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 will take place over the coming weeks at various times. These assessments are completed online and provide valuable insights into student progress in key learning areas. The information gathered helps teachers tailor their teaching to better meet the needs of students.
SASS Week
Next week we celebrate School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) Week. The theme this year is Delivering Excellence in Schools, symbolising the dedication, determination and commitment of SASS staff in supporting education and strengthening our school community.
This year, our SASS staff include:
General Assistants: Mr Simon and Mr Michael
School Learning Support Officers: Mr Tony, Ms Marcella, Ms Narges, Ms Rola, Ms Davis, and Ms Omymah
Office Staff: Mrs Beckers, Mrs White, Mrs Vidler, and of course, Mrs Herd
On behalf of our whole community, I would like to sincerely thank these amazing staff members for everything you do each and every day. We are so lucky to have such dedicated people supporting our school.
Reminders
Attendance: Every day counts! Please inform the office if your child is absent.
Uniform: Full school uniform, including a sunsafe hat, is required daily.
Parent Parking & Safety: Please drive carefully and follow all signage to keep our students safe.
As always, if you have any feedback or questions, please come up and see me.

📚 Book Week Celebrations 📚
📚 Book Week 2025 – “Book an Adventure” 📚
This year’s Book Week was filled with excitement as students participated in a variety of activities to celebrate a love of reading and storytelling. Classes enjoyed visiting the library to browse and purchase books at our Book Fair, which remained open throughout the week for families to enjoy. Students also had the chance to share a favourite story with a friend, bringing books from home or choosing from a wide variety at school. The week finished with our much-loved Character Parade, where students proudly dressed as their favourite characters or carried a prop or book to share with their class.
It was a wonderful week of imagination, fun and community spirit. A big thank you to staff, students and families for helping make Book Week 2025 such a memorable celebration!

Special Guest at our Book Character Parade
Last week at our Book Parade, we had some very special guests!
We welcomed the children and carers from Regents Park Long Day Care Centre, who attended showcasing some amazing costumes. The children eagerly participated in the parade and confidently walked onto the stage to explain to the school community what characters they dressed up as.
The centre Director Sinem, sent an email stating:
"Thank you so much for the invite. My educators, the children and some of the parents who came absolutely loved it. They had such a great time." Really appreciate it!
Thank you to all students who respectfully welcomed our guests to the parade. We look forward to providing further opportunities to invite the centre and other pre schools to our school to celebrate more events with us.

🍎 Stage 3 - Apple Store Excursion 🍎
Coding Experience
On 15th August, a group of our students had the exciting opportunity to take part in a coding workshop at Apple. The session focused on building problem-solving skills and confidence through coding. Students were introduced to Swift Playground, an app that guides learners from writing their very first line of code to creating their own app.
Apple offers these free short courses to small groups of students and adults throughout the term and during school holidays.
If you would like further information about how to book into a session, please see Mrs Faraj.
📣 Metropolitan South and Metropolitan South West Public Speaking Competition 📣
On Tuesday 2nd September, the stage finals of the Metropolitan South and Metropolitan South West Public Speaking Competition will be held for all stages. Two students from each class have been selected to participate in these finals. The students will present their prepared speech as well as an impromptu speech that they will have up to 5 minutes to prepare on the day. The winner of the stage final will move on to the local final, against other schools, which will be held in week 10. Good luck to all the students!

⚽GOAL College Sports Program🏀
This year, our school had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the GOAL College program and what an incredible experience it was for our students! Throughout the program, our students were immersed in high-quality coaching and training across three popular sports – basketball, soccer and netball.
The sessions were not only fun and engaging but also provided our students with the chance to build their skills, teamwork, and confidence. It was fantastic to see how much improvement was made across the weeks – from sharper passing on the netball court, to stronger defense in basketball, to greater strategy and skill in soccer.
Most importantly, the students absolutely loved being part of the program. Their enthusiasm, energy and eagerness to learn each week showed just how much they gained from the experience. The GOAL College coaches were inspiring role models who encouraged our students to aim high and put their best foot forward in every game.
We are so proud of our students for embracing the opportunity and giving their all. Thank you to GOAL College for providing such a valuable and enjoyable program – one that has left our students with improved skills, stronger teamwork and a deeper love of sport.

💃 Dance Workshop - Support Unit 💃
On Thursday 21st August, 5 students from our Support Unit attended a dance workshop held at Bankstown Public School. The dance workshops for students with disability were led by the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit in collaboration with industry professionals. This exciting program was designed to give students with disability the opportunity to explore, discover and reach new physical limits whilst engaging with teachers and students from other schools.
We started with an exciting train journey to the venue, then got straight into some dancing in the school hall. The expert dance facilitators taught students about some of the elements of dance such as space, time, and dynamics. There were plenty of groovy songs to listen and move to, such as We Will Rock You by Queen, a calming mermaid serenade and a silly pirate song! Students really enjoyed being able to make up their own dance moves and we even had a dance battle before it was time to catch the train back to Regents Park PS.
It was an awesome day of movement, creativity and fun, and was also a great opportunity for our students to meet friends from different schools. We are so proud of all our students for their amazing effort and bravery throughout the day, participating in all aspects of the day with a smile.

Josephine Wants to Dance 🩰
What an incredible day our Stage 2 students had when they ventured to Riverside Theatre in Parramatta to experience the magic of Josephine Wants to Dance! 🩰✨
The story leapt off the stage with music, laughter, and inspiration - reminding us all to dream big, be brave and dance to our own beat. 💃🎶
Our students represented our school with pride! So much so that members of the public and Transport NSW reached out to let us know just how “perfect” their behaviour was. What a shining example of respect, kindness and school spirit! 🌈👏

Summer PSSA Basketball Season Begins 🏀
Our Summer PSSA basketball teams have officially tipped off the season and what a fantastic start it has been! Today we attended our first Gala Day and it was wonderful to see so many students representing our school with pride, energy, and sportsmanship.
Throughout the day, our players demonstrated great teamwork, persistence and enthusiasm on the court. For many, this was their first experience playing in a competitive setting, and it was amazing to watch their confidence and skills grow with each game. The encouragement and support they gave one another was a real highlight, showing the true spirit of school sport.
We are looking forward to an exciting season ahead as our teams continue to learn, improve and enjoy playing basketball together.

🏫 Pre School Visits 🏫
Our school has been working with Regents Park Long Day Care Centre and Kidz on Regent, two local preschools/daycares, to support children in Kindergarten Orientation for 2026.
In weeks 5 and 6 two staff members visited these centres to engage children in a learning experience, preparing them for Kindergarten in 2026. The children were read a 'Going to School' social story, sang songs about school and participated in a Healthy Lunch box making activity.
It was amazing to see the enthusiasm from the carers and children during the session and we were able to learn about how we can best support the students with their transition to school. We look forward to the next visits to these centres in the coming weeks!

Help Children With Healthy Screen Time Habits
Too much screen time can affect children’s health, sleep habits and development. While screens may be a part of life, they don’t have to take control.
Here are some tips to support healthy screen habits at home:
Disconnect to reconnect.
- Focus on creating moments together and being present with your loved ones.
Use screen time for learning.
- Watch a tutorial, follow a recipe or learn a dance.
Have open conversations.
- Talk to your children about realistic screen time limits and find solutions together. Aim for balance rather than perfection.
Encourage outdoor time.
- Spend time playing outside. It’s good for their health.
Boost learning through conversation.
- Reading, playing and asking questions are great ways to use words, actions and sounds.
➡️ Why it matters:
- For young children: Too much screentime can impact their growth and language development. Real-life play, conversations and connections are key.
- For teenagers: Screens can impact their daily routine and wellbeing. The goal is to find a balance with social connection, education and interests.
