PHN STUDENTS BRING LESSONS OF LEADERSHIP HOME TO FELLOW STUDENTS
On Thursday, October 8, eleven students from Port Huron Northern attended a Leadership Summit at Lapeer High School. Throughout the event, students explored the qualities of effective leadership, focusing on both social and moral leadership skills. PHN students collaborated with peers from other schools in breakout groups, where they participated in engaging team-building activities designed to strengthen communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Following each activity, students reflected on the deeper meaning behind the games and discussed how the skills they practiced could be applied beyond the summit. The event concluded with a group debrief focused on bringing these lessons back to Port Huron Northern. Students shared ideas for using their new knowledge and leadership skills to help foster a more positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture.
Attendance Matters...Every Week
October is Attendance Awareness Month, and we will continue to share tips that will help students and parents alike reach that goal of fewer than 5 absences. If you have some ideas that work in your household, be sure to share them with family and friends!
Future Huskies Take the Field
Two weeks ago you read about Central and Holland Woods band students joining the Red Hawk Marching Machine for a half time performance. Last Friday, Ft. Gratiot and the other half of Holland Woods Middle Schools' 7th and 8th grade band students had their opportunity to shine under the Friday Night Lights. Port Huron Northern Marching Band hosted the future Huskies, who played on the field during half time and served as a crowd-pleasing pep band in the stands. We appreciate the hard work of our band directors, staff and parents for making this happen.
While these types of events are terrific opportunities for our middle school students, the benefits are certainly not one-sided. Our high school students really enjoy - and frequently initiate - opportunities to coach and mentor kids who will soon be walking the same path. We could not be more proud of our students who actively work to make PHASD a stronger, closer community! #StrongerTogether
