Physical distancing in schools

On March 19, the Centers for Disease Control began recommending 3 feet of physical distance between students in classrooms. The CDC still recommends 6 feet of distance in common areas; cafeterias, when masks can’t be worn; and during some activities.

We have not yet made a decision to revise physical distance requirements in VPS schools. The Washington state Department of Health must first adopt the guidelines, and we would need to reassess the feasibility of bringing more students into school buildings, which would impact operations related to schedules, transportation, meals and much more.

Please watch for further updates.

We will continue to follow the state’s recommendations and maintain efforts, including distancing, to keep students and staff safe at school.
