Hello Lincoln Community,

Our week was highlighted by an assembly full of stunts and good character messages, a professional learning day, and a spirit day when many students and staff wore crazy shoes. Pictures are above and details are included below.

All School Assembly - Wow! This week we hosted a BIG AIR BMX Show featuring a couple of the world’s top Pro BMX Athletes in a 40-minute action-packed school assembly. The BMX athletes delivered powerful positive messages focused on character, anti-bullying, working hard in school, graduating, being motivated, and striving for success. Pictures are included here.

Fall Conferences: Right around the corner we'll be inviting families in to meet with teachers for Fall Conferences. Look for more information coming soon for an important opportunity to meet with your child's teacher. The dates will be on Wednesday, October 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday, October 10, from 12:00 to 8:00 PM. Conferences are a chance for our teachers to spend time with each family to give an update on how the year is going, provide specific student data, set goals, and have a look ahead at learning throughout the year.

Professional Development Monday: Earlier this week we had a professional development day for all staff across the Woodburn School District. Lincoln staff learned about early literacy, math instructional practices, or language bridging between Spanish and English. We learned more about the components of high quality literacy instruction and small group work, as well as PBIS and creating a strong sense of belonging for each and every student. Additionally, our educators participated in other workshops that were specific to their professional role. We truly appreciate how community and district prioritizes continued staff learning by providing these professional development days throughout the year.

The Roofing Project Update: The finishing up of the construction project is near. Our hope is for contractors to complete the project by the end of October. We continue to try to ensure that this project has minimal impact to the student day. With that in mind, on Monday we held most of our professional development work at Washington Elementary so the roofing contractors could start extra early.

Questions: Please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance

zoom_out_map

This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.

Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!

So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
