Capital Project Proposal Overview
Tuesday night, the Board of Education received a detailed presentation on a proposed capital project. The presentation builds on discussions Dr. Gundersen has held with the Board throughout the summer regarding work with architects, construction management and district administration to develop the proposal.
The project's scope includes new safe and secure entrances at each building, upgraded learning spaces, athletic fields and performing arts areas, and general infrastructure improvements needed in the district's older buildings. Dr. Gundersen presented a building-by-building breakdown, including floor plans and proposed changes, followed by an estimated project cost of approximately $81 million, organized by priority.
Separately, the district is exploring construction of a field house on the high school property, estimated at an additional $20 million. This would be considered as a distinct decision from the $81 million capital project. In addition to expanding athletic and event space, the field house is projected to generate future revenue for the district.
Please watch Dr. Gundersen's presentation, and the Board of Education questions for more details.
