This week started the last making period of the year. We will be celebrating the Class of 2026 before we know it, as the spring always flies by quicker than expected. This week, we hosted the middle school theatre group for their dress rehearsal, which they performed in front of the elementary school as well as their middle school peers.

Many of our high school theatre kids played significant roles in organizing, directing, and supporting these performances. Huge shout-out to Maggie Martin as the director, as well as Abigail McCarty as stage manager, Sarah Reynolds, Jadyn Jones on crew, Caleb Hawkins as lighting designer, and Brodie King assisting with sound. Performances are at 7 PM on the 26th, 27th, 28th, and a 2 PM matinee on the 28th. Beauty and the Beast Junior has some amazing DK kids putting on a very entertaining show.

Today, we held our first-ever Friday Funday, where teachers hosted a variety of activities that kids signed up for, and we stopped instruction in the middle of the day just to have fun together. This idea came from students and our mental health ambassadors who have a good handle on the pulse of their peers. Cornhole tournament, arts and crafts, karaoke, disc golf, and many other activities made for a nice time of connecting with our kids and making relationships even stronger.

Earlier this week, our Allied Health Nursing student helped with one of our required MERT drills. MERT stands for Medical Emergency Response Team, and our students used some of their learning to participate in a stop the bleed drill. Shout out to Nurse Rhonda, who is preparing our kids and once again bringing real and relevant learning to DKHS.

Spring sports have started to have some competitions, and that gets very active here even before we leave for spring break. Check out the athletic schedules at DKPanthers.com and come on out to support our teams. We are also starting to post lots of end-of-year details around the class of 2026 senior activities, prom, grad walk, decision day, and our graduation ceremonies.

Today, we had our second visit from Interquest Detection Canines in partnership with local law enforcement. Our contract with this company is for multiple visits this school year, so they will be back as we continue to look for ways to keep your kids and our campus safe and healthy.

FRIDAY FUN DAY! FRIDAY FUN DAY!

Today the high school took an hour to have some fun. Students signed up earlier in the week to participate in different activities. There were rooms for studying, relaxing, mindful coloring, crochet and puzzles, card games, karaoke, line dancing, pickleball, badmiton, cornhole, disc golf, Grudgeball trivia, make and take art, and newspaper club. Both staff and students had a great time having some downtime to enjoy each other. Here are just a few pictures.
