Grateful, Not Risky: Make Smart Choices This Thanksgiving

As the leaves change and Thanksgiving break approaches, it’s a great time to reflect on what matters most—family, friends, and feeling confident in the choices you make. While the holiday season brings a lot to look forward to, it can also come with pressures and situations that test your judgment, especially when it comes to alcohol.

Drinking underage isn’t just illegal; it’s unsafe. It can affect how you think, slow your reaction time, and lead to decisions that put your safety and future at risk. Whether you're spending time with friends, traveling, or relaxing at home, staying alcohol-free helps you stay in control and enjoy the break for all the right reasons.

This Thanksgiving, don’t let one risky choice gobble up all the good things ahead. You have so much to be thankful for—keep it safe, keep it smart, and keep moving toward the future you deserve.

Monthly Fast Facts

  • Thanksgiving break can be risky for kids your age. With extra free time and family gatherings, there’s a higher chance of being around alcohol. (SAMHSA: Talk. They Hear You.)
  • Drinking underage can be dangerous. Alcohol is linked to accidents like car crashes, falls, fights, and other injuries for young people. (CDC: About Underage Drinking)
  • Starting to drink early makes future problems more likely. Kids who start drinking before 15 are about 4 times more likely to struggle with alcohol when they’re older. (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism)
