JUNE 2025
Principal's Corner
June 2025
Dear Dr. Green Families,
We have finished our 2024-2025 school year strong. I would like to express my gratitude to the parents, family members, teachers and staff for a wonderful school year. The year was meaningful and eventful making a difference in our students -our little Hawks'
lives.
Thank you to our PTA board, PTA members and volunteers for supporting every event from day one. Just in the last couple of weeks we celebrated Mother's and Father's Day; hosted the Gifted and Talented Fair; had our beautiful Cheerleaders Performance; we listened to our passionate Choir/Orchestra performing; held the Completion Ceremony for 5th Grade, Pre-Kinder and Kinder; students had a fantastic Field Day and to top it all, students had a terrific time taping to the wall their principal and their teacher as promised for a great STAAR test results. What an amazing end of the year!
STAAR assessment preliminary results: Overall most of our students improved in all subjects. We definitely met our goal of improving in math and science as reading historically has been our campus strong subject. The long hours of additional interventions including Saturday workshops paid off. Thank you parents for supporting your children bringing them to school, helping with homework, and staying in communication with teachers. District and campuses' final ratings will be received and posted late in the summer.
Registration: Our registered students percentage is 70%. We have 30 students not registered and 44 incomplete (if you have not uploaded a recent service bill, please upload it to complete your child's registration).
If you have not registered yet, especially for PreK 4, please do not delay. Registration is online, or you can stop by our office if you need assistance. Below please use the QR code that will take you directly to the online registration page or to learn more about registration and programs, click here.
School Supplies: These will be provided by the district. If there are additional items required by specific teachers, please wait until student/parent orientation day at the end of July. For now, please secure a backpack for your child and perhaps a box of tissues and disinfecting wipes.
Class sections: Due to our small student membership, our school has been operating mostly with one monolingual and one dual language sections per grade level; if your child attended a monolingual class, your child will be placed in the one monolingual class in the next grade level, and the same for dual language classes; there are no other section choices. We are excited to see your children return to school in August 4th for another wonderful school year.
Summer School: If your child received an invitation/permission slip to attend the one week summer school, your child will be in attendance all day according to a NEW schedule for summer school, please see below. Students will have reading, math, science and technology (enrichment) instruction. They will be provided with free of charge breakfast and lunch. Transportation will be provided only if they are currently enrolled in the school transportation program.
Summer School Schedule June 9-13:
Breakfast/Bus Arrival: 7:55-8:25-School doors will open at 7:55
Instruction begins at 8:25 to 11:25
Lunch: 11:25-11:55
Instruction continues at 11:55 to 3:00
Please note the dismissal time will be at 3:00 pm. Please arrange student pick up on time.
If you are sending your Pre-Kinder and Kinder children to the summer school, the students are accepted based on qualifying criteria. Only students who are coded Emergent Bilingual students in PreK and K, qualify for a 3 week Summer School program at Western Hills Elementary. Dr. Green will not have this program, but our students may attend Western Hills.
We hope you enjoy your little ones this summer, keep them engaged in home and outdoor activities. We'll be ready for you all in August 4th!
Again, parents, thank you so much for your continuing support. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can email me at gpineda@episd.org. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and your family.
I would like to close with this quote as our pledge to you:
"Teaching children is an accomplishment;
Getting children excited about learning is an achievement".

That is what we at Dr. Green believe and strive to accomplish.
Respectfully,

Comprehension
This month we will be focusing on helping our readers ask good questions as they read. Here are some ideas:
What are you wondering? (The title, the cover illustration, what the book will be about, and where the story is taking place)
What do you think will happen next?
This part is confusing. Let's go back and reread to understand.
I wonder why the character did that?
What will the character do now?
What could be a new ending for this book?
