Dear Lion Cub Families,

As we continue to nurture a positive and supportive environment at Haw River Elementary. We want to take a moment to highlight a value that is essential not only within our school community but throughout life: empathy.

Empathy—the ability to understand and share the feelings of others—is a cornerstone of kindness, respect, and cooperation. It allows us to connect deeply with one another and build strong, caring relationships. At HRE, we believe teaching empathy helps our students become compassionate leaders and thoughtful citizens.

Throughout the school year, we will be incorporating lessons and activities focused on developing empathy. We encourage you to reinforce these values at home by:

• Listening actively to your child’s feelings and experiences.

• Modeling empathetic behavior in everyday interactions.

• Encouraging your child to consider others’ perspectives.

• Discussing real-life situations where empathy makes a difference.

Together, by fostering empathy, we create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Mientras continuamos fomentando un ambiente positivo y de apoyo en la Escuela Primaria Haw River, queremos destacar un valor esencial no solo dentro de nuestra comunidad escolar, sino a lo largo de la vida: la empatía.

Reminders:

• School begins at 7:50 a.m. for ALL students Pre-K-5. If you arrive after 7:50, you must park in the Pre-K parking lot and walk in with your students to sign them in before they can go to class.
• Breakfast will stop being served at 9:00 am.
• If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, please call the front office at (336) 578-0177 before 2:00 p.m. Teachers will not be able to check and respond to messages and emails throughout the day during instructional time. Please do not expect an immediate response from your child's teacher during instructional hours. Office hours for teachers begin after 3:00 p.m.
• Families may come to eat lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher 24 hours in advance, if you can, to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.
• Just a quick safety reminder: If you are signing your student(s) out early (before 2:20 p.m.), you must go inside the front office and check them out. If you arrive after 2:20 p.m., to sign your child out, you must wait until the dismissal announcements are made at 2:25 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter!

Hello Lion Cub family. The first two weeks have been amazing! As we prepare for dismissal, please be patient with buses and in the car rider line. We are assigning car rider numbers and we have a number of students who are car riders. Things are very congested due to it being the but it will improve; therefore, please be patient and pleasant during dismissal. We appreciate your patience and assistance as we work to ensure everyone gets home safely. Thank you for all that you do!

This is an important bus announcement for students who ride bus 87 and 76. Starting September 8, bus 76 will be leaving from school at 2:20. Please expect students home a few minutes early.

Bus 87 will be riding on the second route of bus 76. These students on 87 will be arriving home later than usual. Because we are short drivers, we have to use this method.

I am also waiting on more bus approvals. The transportation department said they have over 1000 approvals. When we get the approvals, we will let you all know immediately. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If there is anyone willing to drive buses, please contact the transportation department.
