The Weekly Words
January 11, 2026
At Noble Elementary, we believe that every student has the right to learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. We also believe that every student has the power to make positive choices, learn from mistakes, and become stronger leaders in our school community. Noble Elementary empowers all students for college and career readiness through AVID’s schoolwide focus on WICOR, student success skills, and a growth mindset.
A strong first week back from Winter Break! Active engagement was evident across classrooms, including this moment in Mrs. Cohen’s Wonders lesson, intentional turn-and-talks with explicit directions and clear look-fors driving student participation.

The Power of Service
Team,
As we reflect on the challenges we face in our work, it’s also a time to find inspiration in Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. On Monday, January 19, we will celebrate MLK Day, and I hope the extended weekend, next week, provides a chance to rest, reflect, and consider how his teachings influence our work as educators. Observing MLK Day through service is a way to honor his life, strengthen our community, and connect students and staff to experiences that matter. It is my hope that we can use this week to provide students background to the upcoming holiday and find ways to teach students some of Dr. King's most valuable lessons.
Dr. King’s life reminds us that even in moments of difficulty, we can make a meaningful difference through service, connection, and care for our community. Dr. King famously said, "Everyone can be great because everybody can serve." The MLK Day of Service encourages projects that have a lasting impact, address real needs, and provide time to reflect on his teachings. Please keep this in mind as you plan instruction or classroom activities around MLK Jr.
Thank you also for returning this week with energy, focus, and commitment to students and content. It has been wonderful to see routines, teaching, and learning across the building. Let’s continue to build that momentum as we move into 2026, keeping Acadience, Interims, and Spring OST on our horizon.
Mr. Walker, M.Ed.
Principal
From the Assistant Principal's Desk
Hi team,
The New Year truly did offer a reset, and it showed. We saw teachers intentionally revisiting routines, modeling expectations, and creating space for students to practice, reflect, and re-engage. Classrooms felt purposeful, grounded, and calm, even as students reacclimated to learning together again.
I know the pressure of pacing and the scope and sequence remains very real. And still, many of you made thoughtful choices to slow down just enough, whether for a full day, a morning, or a few key moments, to reinforce expectations and reconnect students to the “why” behind them. That investment matters. It pays off in instructional time, student confidence, and classroom culture.
As we move forward, I encourage you to continue leaning on our PBIS expectations and the Big 4 as anchors. These shared commitments help ensure consistency for students and prepare them not just for success at Noble, but for life beyond our walls.
Thank you for the care, consistency, and professionalism you bring to your work. I’m grateful for the strong start to this next chapter and excited for what we’ll continue to build together.

This program is from the same publisher as our social studies curriculum and follows a similar format, including printed weekly “newspapers” provided to each student. Classrooms will also receive Science Kits to support labs and hands-on activities aligned to the curriculum.
In Grades K–3, Discovery Lab teachers (this reflects a name change to our current STEM teachers starting next year) will implement the curriculum once per week, with classroom teachers reinforcing vocabulary and key concepts during the ELA block.
In Grades 4–5, classroom teachers will implement the curriculum during the designated science block, with content elaboration occurring once per week in collaboration with Discovery Lab teachers.
For Grade 5, teachers will also have online access to the Ohio version of the program.
Action Item: MAP Data Analysis

Upload onto the Google Drive found in the link below; extensions are available, upon request.
Action Item: Acadience Preparation
The Acadience Assessment window opens Monday, January 5 and closes Friday, January 23. We will not assess students on the first day back, but testing will begin on Tuesday, January 6 to ensure all assessments are completed within the window.
Assessment Schedule:
Tuesday, January 6: Begin assessing Grades 2 and 3
Week of January 12: Assess Kindergarten and continue Grades 2 and 3
Friday, January 16 & Week of January 20: Assess Grade 1
The District Calendar shows that Cycle 1 continues until Friday, January 23. The Title Team will continue some intervention groups, though a few will need to end earlier to complete testing. Teacher-led interventions should continue through January 23.
Title Team Adjustments:
Bogus: Last day for Grades 2, 3, and 4 intervention groups – December 19
Bogus: Last day for Grade 1 intervention group – January 8
Salvatore/Holyk: Last day for 5th grade ELA groups – December 19
Salvatore/Holyk: Last day for Kindergarten intervention groups – January 8
Additional Notes:
Grade 1: It would be helpful to provide a brief “nonsense word boot camp” prior to your assessment week. Erik and Megan have offered support with this review; let Ms. Bogus know if you would like their assistance.
A heads-up that the second round of grade-level MTSS meetings will be held the first week of February.
Action Item: Interim Preparation in TBTs
