APS Community Newsletter - August
Alamogordo Public Schools | August 2025
The 25/26 School Year has kicked off with great excitement!
The 2025–2026 school year is off to an incredible start! APS kicked things off with our Back to School Block Party on July 25, drawing nearly 4,000 attendees. Countless school supplies were distributed, and thanks to For Otero, over 1350 backpacks were provided to local families. The Tiger Band kept the crowd entertained, as did Vamos Ninos, a mobile Children's Museum from Las Cruces. A heartfelt thank you to the over 30 community partners and APS departments for sharing valuable information and resources with families, and to Christus Health for providing 60 sports physicals.
On July 29th and 30th, we hosted our New Teacher Academy, welcoming 40 talented educators to the district! Our all-staff Kickoff in the Tiger Pit on August 1st energized the team with an inspiring keynote from Dr. Adolph "Doc" Brown, recognition for staff with numerous years of service to the district, and a spirit competition between schools & departments! Congratulations, Mountain View Middle School!🤩 Open houses were bustling as students and families explored classrooms and met teachers on August 4th and 5th. Thank you to everyone who attended! Finally, on August 6, we welcomed Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th graders for their own first-day experience, with all other students joining on August 7th, and just like that, a brand-new year of learning and growing is underway!

Letter from the Superintendent
I am honored to introduce Alamogordo Public School’s Framework for the Future. Our commitment to building a brighter future and providing high-level education for our students is stronger than ever. This shared vision has led to the development of this collaborative blueprint for success. We envision a community where, through deep partnership with all stakeholders – parents, families, and community members – every individual is empowered to lead with heart and learn with a purpose to thrive as a lifelong learner.
To achieve this, our framework centers on creating dynamic, learner-centered experiences built upon the collaborative implementation of our learning model. This involves providing rich opportunities for student-driven, hands-on learning and celebrating student achievements in close collaboration with families and the wider community.
We are also committed to continuously evolving our students’ learning, ensuring we are always adapting and innovating to consistently increase student achievement. Our mission is to foster engagement, exploration, and discovery through exceptional educational experiences for all.
We deeply value our teachers and instructional staff as the backbone of this endeavor, and the framework provides them with ongoing, relevant professional development and collaboration time.
Furthermore, we are dedicated to strengthening our community ties, building meaningful and active partnerships with parents, families, community members, and organizations to offer our students invaluable real-world learning and mentorship opportunities.
Ultimately, our Framework for the Future is about collectively cultivating innovative thinkers, resilient achievers, engaged global citizens, self-aware learners, and skilled communicators, supported by a unified community that will lead Alamogordo into a vibrant and successful future. We believe that together, we can make this framework a reality.
Sincerely,
Michael Crabtree
Superintendent
Guiding Coalition
Community collaboration was key to the creation of the new strategic plan!
APS is excited to launch the "Businesses in Schools" program! What is the purpose of the program? "Businesses in Schools" is an initiative from Alamogordo Public Schools that aims to foster active partnerships between local businesses and schools. Its goal is to support real-world learning and help develop students into skilled communicators, resilient achievers, innovative thinkers, self-aware learners, and global citizens. The program encourages businesses to adopt a school, volunteer a minimum of two times annually, and collaborate with school administrators to enhance educational activities. Around 25 organizations, large and small, have signed up to participate in the program this year, and we look forward to seeing the outstanding results!
