Dear Families,
Engineering Project - designing weight-bearing bridges: Our engineering project came to a close Thursday. Each team successfully completed the project - many of them bearing 5 pounds, all of them so thoughtfully designed. We have a few more of them to test. The bridges are in the display cabinet in the hallway. You are welcome to stop by and see them. Working in cross-grade level teams is one of the aspects of these engineering projects that is most interesting to witness. Using the LETSC principles (Listen to everyone. Everyone participates. Take turns. Share the work/job equally. Compromise) as their guide, they do a remarkable job engaging in collaborative design and work.
Progress reporting system:
Progress reports are coming home in backpacks today. If you have questions, please be in touch with your teacher.
If your child has an IEP, they will receive an IEP progress report next week.
FASTBridge reading and math assessment reports will be sent home the week 2/9.
Spring conference window is 3/2 -3/27.
Valentines Day: Today or next Monday each student and staff member will draw the name of someone in the school to make a Surprise Valentine for. This has been a beloved tradition for many years, bringing us closer together and adding beauty and intrigue to the front hall bulletin board. The cards are all handmade with care. Children will have time in art class and open art the next two weeks to make their Valentine or they can make them at home. They should not include candy or other gifts/trinkets. The sooner they are done the longer we have to admire them before we exchange them on February 13.
In addition to the exchange of Surprise Valentines on the 13th, each class will have cookies and strawberry milk at some point during the day. We ask that children not bring in cards, other than the one they make for their Surprise Valentine, and there is no need for extra treats to come in. We’ve got it covered!
Lunch help: For next week we need volunteers for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If any of these days work for you, please let me know or sign up directly on the February lunch calendar. If you can schedule ahead into February, please do.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301).
Stay warm! Christina
Our engineering teams finished their bridge projects this week- all load bearing
