Principal/Vice Principal's Message
Dear LPS Families,
We have certainly enjoyed the recent warm-up, although it has made many areas around the school quite icy. We appreciate everyone’s care and caution during arrival, recess, and dismissal as we continue to navigate these conditions. Even with the slippery surfaces, we are happily sliding into another busy and exciting week at Legal Public School.
This past Tuesday, our students participated in a fire safety presentation that was both engaging and informative. They learned important safety information and were especially excited to see the fire truck parked out front of the school. A big thank you to our local firefighters for taking the time to visit and help keep our students informed and safe.
We were also pleased to host another successful School Council meeting. Thank you to all families who continue to support our school through their involvement, ideas, and thoughtful conversations. Your input truly helps strengthen our school community.
Looking ahead to next week, we invite families and community members to join us for the Legal Public School Engagement Evening on Tuesday, January 20th at 6:00 p.m. This evening is an opportunity to connect, share feedback, and be part of meaningful discussions about our school. We hope to see many of you there.
As a friendly reminder, there will be no Pre-K classes on Tuesday, January 20th. This day will be used as a staff planning day to allow our team time to collaborate and plan for the best possible programming for our students.
With gratitude,
Louise Loh, Principal
Angela Davis, Vice Principal
This Week's Unplugged Thought
Technology can be a helpful tool for families. Even small breaks, 10 minutes at supper or during a walk, can help children reconnect and reset.
Why This Matters
Children learn emotional regulation through moments of calm connection. Short, consistent pauses support their ability to settle and refocus.
Did You Know?
Emotional Dysregulation: What It Is and Why It Happens
Emotional dysregulation occurs when a student’s emotions become so intense that they temporarily lose the ability to think clearly, communicate calmly, or make safe choices. This can happen during conflict, frustration, disappointment, or overwhelming situations. During these moments, students are not being defiant; they are overwhelmed. Our role as adults is to help students regain calm and learn healthier ways to respond over time.
Staying Connected & Reporting Absences
Please note that our school offices will remain closed until August 18.
Starting August 18, all school-related calls and inquiries can be directed to our Administrative Assistant at Landing Trail School by calling 780-923-2898. This number will now serve as the main contact for all school communication, including urgent matters.

Literacy & Numeracy Testing
*Sent via email on January 5, 2026
This year, Kindergarten-Grade 3 students in Sturgeon Public Schools will complete both the provincial literacy and provincial numeracy assessments. Grade 4 students will complete the provincial numeracy screeners.
Grade 1-4 students are assessed in September 2025, January 2026 and May 2026.
Kindergarten students will be assessed in January 2026.
These assessments help guide teaching and are part of the support already in place to ensure that all students develop strong literacy and numeracy skills. This information helps classroom teachers support students as they develop critical learning skills in these areas. Please refer to the following document from Alberta Education for more details. Guardian Q&A.
If you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in these assessments, please contact me at 780-923-2898 or by email by January 12, 2026.
