Every Voice, Every Heart, Every Day

As the fall season settles in, Sanborn is buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and connection. Our classrooms are alive with learning, and students are showing us every day what it means to bring their voices and hearts into the community. With new routines underway and exciting events on the horizon.

Last week, our Fifth Grade students had the opportunity to visit Pfizer on a field trip sponsored by the science department. The experience was designed to spark curiosity and excitement for science while engaging students in important practices such as collaboration and problem-solving. The students thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on learning opportunity.

Looking ahead, we will hold our first C-3 (Cultural Climate Committee) meeting of the school year next week. All are welcome to join—simply stop by the front office if you are interested in being part of this important work.

Also next week, we will gather for our second all-school meeting of the year. We have a very exciting announcement planned, and I’m confident our students will be thrilled when they hear it!

This year, I will share pictures at the end of each month in our newsletter. Be sure to check out the photos below! Some of these images highlight the creativity and excitement surrounding the launch of our new Arts & Letters program. From Ms. Kish’s heart-themed dress to Ms. Gianopoulos’ ocean-inspired print, our staff have found fun and meaningful ways to represent the themes of Arts & Letters both literally and figuratively. We are also excited to showcase a new bulletin board designed by our very own Ms. Ricciardi. As part of her process, she collaborates closely with John from Facilities, who ensures each piece is carefully protected. He also partners with her to make any necessary repairs on her previous murals, helping her work continue to inspire our school.

We are reviewing with our students the many safety precautions we have in place when they are in school. You may hear your children talking about Fire Drills or A.L.I.C.E Drills. A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Communicate, Evacuate.

A.L.I.C.E is designed to prepare students for life inside and out of the classroom, at school, at home, at the mall, at an afterschool program, at restaurants, or any other place the child goes. We are teaching life-long safety skills.

This school year we will participate in both Fire Drills, supported by the Andover Fire Department, and A.L.I.C.E drills. During the next few weeks, we will hold our first A.L.I.C.E drill, supported by the Andover Police Department. We will provide families with an update after our drill is complete. If you wish to review the A.L.I.C.E. drill with your children, we wanted to share this resource. Our teachers do an incredible job making sure that these drills are explained in child friendly terms. After a drill, teachers discuss with the students how it went and answer any questions.

In addition to drills, we also talk with our students about following good safety practices. This involves never opening a locked door for someone- even if it is someone they know. All visitors are asked to enter via the main entrance. We utilize the Visitor Aware System, a modern web-based system that allows our office staff to track everyone who enters our school and stop any threats at the door. All visitors will be required to show state-issued identification (license, passport) in order to enter the building.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership to ensure we keep our students and schoolhouse safe.

  • Important dates:

    • 10/8 Early Release
